On Friday, Adrianne Curry, the very first winner of America’s Next Top Model, wrote an interesting blog entry on her MySpace. I don’t really read her blog, but I saw the entry on Oh No They Didn’t, and found was immediately intrigued. In the blog, she says she is boycotting BET and Black History Month because she sees them as racist.
Throwing around the word “racist” can be very dangerous especially if you can’t back it up, but I think she has a very logical argument. She says:
“I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS!…I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.”
Though I’m not willing to throw racist around so liberally, I do believe things like BET and Black History Month are discriminatory considering it would be improper for any other cultural group to do everything possible to stand out. I think they only proliferate the silent polarization going on in the US, and that is what ruins us. When we divide a large group into a bunch of smaller groups, the goals of the singular large group are undermined. Also, though having an “American History Month” sounds like a great idea, perhaps we should just focus learning all aspects of history be it American, European, Middle Eastern, etc. After all, you can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been.
What do you think about Adrianne’s “boycott”? You can read the entire blog under the cut.

First of all, I can’t stand the song “Crank Dat” by Soulja Boy. I’m sure I’m going to get tons of flack for saying this, but when I first saw his name I had no idea how to say it. Spelling things incorrectly isn’t cute, it just makes you look ignorant. But, that’s beside the point, I don’t like the song, but Tristan thinks its great! Travis Barker, being the maniac drummer he is, decided to do a bit of a remix to “Crank Dat”, and now its tolerable (for me at least).
Perhaps, its just the fact that I can appreciate the drumming over the terribly repetitive lyrics (please stop crackin’ “dat Soulja Boy”). Maybe all shitty songs just need crazy drums in the back to make them tolerable, and then, the people who don’t get off on dance moves can have something to listen to. Check out the video, and tell us if its an upgrade or down-grade:
Wednesday nights are officially my favorite nights ever! Not only does America’s Next Top Model come on, but Gossip Girl is on right after it, and then Real World: Australia comes on at 10p.m. (I’m a sucker for reality shows). Needless to say last night I got nothing done, but let’s talk about what happened on Top Model and Gossip Girl (Real World = D-R-A-M-A always).
Not much happened on ANTM.
The Deets: The girls were taken on a cruise, narrowed down from 50 to 20 and then 20 to 13. There was much tear shed, some broken dreams, but everyone will end up all right. Miss J. had on a sailor outfit that was fab-u-lous, and totally cracked me up. Jaslene, last year’s winner, made a brief appearance before the 20 girls had a beach photoshoot.
Final Thoughts:Right now I’m not sure who my favorite is, but if you have one do tell.
Now onto Gossip Girl.
The Deets: Serena comes back from boarding school in Connecticut. Blair, Serena’s old bestie, doesn’t want to give up new Queen B status. A diva stare-down ensues because B. doesn’t invite S. to the ‘Kiss on the Lips’ party. B. and S. make up for about five seconds, but Blair finds out Serena had hooked up with her boyfriend, Nate before heading to a boarding school in CT. Meanwhile, freshman and social nobody (yet), Jenny, starts to form a friendship with the cool kids, and her brother, Dan, ends up on a date with Serena. The date is interrupted because Jenny’s having guy trouble (the jerk’s name is Chuck); Chuck gets punched, Dan gets the girl and saves his sister, Blair is still pissed, and Nate wants Serena. THE END!
Final Thoughts: Why are the Gossip Girl guys so cute? Oh, and Tristan thinks this show owns his life.
Everyone does it. They briefly hear about a band, but pay no attention because you were too busy doing who knows what. Then someone tells you how absolutely great a band is so you check them out, and guess what? Same Band! That is how I found out about PlayRadioPlay!. I had seen the name somewhere, but it wasn’t until I saw a bulletin on myspace saying to check them out, did I actually listen to the music, and I’m glad I finally took the time because they’re awesome.
Actually when I say “they’re” its just sort of technical because PlayRadioPlay is one guy, 17-year-old Daniel Hunter, who is a total cutie if that means anything.
PRP is signed to Stolen Transmission, a label which I have total respect for, back in late 2006. They really take chances and sign bands people should actually listen to, instead of bands that just sound like every other band around (does that make sense). I promise I have no affiliation with them (I wish!). When I first took a listen, I wanted to fall a sleep in the best way! The songs are sort of electro-poppy, but not rave style; think The Postal Service. It’s the perfect balance of slightly-synthesized, keyboard beats and soft, put-you-to-sleep-with-it’s-beauty, vocals. All of that is only the tip of the iceberg. If you truly listen to the lyrics you get a bit of a darker picture, and this combo gives the music a ton of depth.
Right now PRP is on tour with Spill Canvas; you can see the tour dates here. Also, you can get The Frequency EP on itunes for $4.99 right now!
The third and final chapter of the greatest multiplayer shooter/rpg is finally about to hit shelves. If you don’t buy this game, you will regret it the rest of your natural born life. If you have yet to play a Halo video game then you better fucking go out there buy Halo, Halo2, and pre-order Halo 3 (sorry I got swept away). That way you can join the craze that has swept the world.
Halo 3 promises us all everything we wanted and more. The graphics are better, more weapons and vehicles are added to the game, and the storyline has only gotten better. On top of all this a new feature has been added that allows the you to record and playback all you do on the game, and I mean all. This is a great idea in my opinion, I mean who doesn’t want to watch the one shot kill snipe in slow motion. Reports also say that the graphics issue that has been complained about has finally been rectified with beautiful sceneries and even better looking characters. Get ready to blow up some Grunts and go pre-order your copy or else you probably wont be getting this title until September of next year.
