Tennis King Tote_$42.00

Lately, I have been on this crazy lucky streak *knock on wood*. And when I say lucky streak, I am totally discounting the über-harsh speeding ticket I just got. Though that wasn’t very lucky, I was lucky enough to get a great internship with 31 Corn Lane. I have talked about Corn Lane before, but after meeting one of the sisters, Amy, and getting great sneak peeks on new products, I can honestly say I love them even more than I already did. I started the internship a while ago, and have totally become a Sperber groupie. I love everything that comes out of the genius heads of these girls, especially their new stuff.

31 Corn Lane just released a new tote, wallet, and glasses case. As soon as I saw the new items I swooned like whoa. All the pieces are white and they have a green and a red stripe down the middle. They’re lined with a super-cute tennis-themed fabric. By tennis-themed I mean red, green, and brown racquets with little yellow tennis balls on a white background. The tennis-theme comes in because the new items were inspired by tennis great Billie Jean King. King not only gave Bobby Riggs a whomping at the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” match (girl power what?), but she strutted her stuff down the catwalk at the Fall 2007 Truth Heart Red Dress Collection.

The Tennis King Tote is honestly the perfect size. It’s not a ginormous tote, you know the kind you can put your life in it and it still feels empty, but it isn’tthe type where it’s so small you can’t actually use it for anything. I tend to use it for school when I have to carry all my binders, notebooks, and the always necessary magazine or two (Chemistry is a snooze). I also love that there’s a matching glasses case because I always throw my sunglasses in my purse and they end up with a lifetime supply of fingerprints on them from me having to riffle through my bag (so annoying). I’m totally going to stop gushing, but I have to say everything from 31 Corn Lane is not only amazingly cute, but it’s totally affordable.

Go add 31 Corn Lane too your friends on MySpace, and check out other swoontastic Corn Lane stuff at their web store. I really want to sign off with El Presidenté.

It’s Not Over ‘Till It’s Over

The Oscar buzz won’t quit. Everywhere I look there is another article talking about red carpet fashions. You never realize how much influence celebrity fashion has on the U.S. until award season rolls around. Life & Style Weekly just had an article about their faves from the Academy Awards. Some of their categories were “Most Glamorous” going to Penelope Cruz, “Slinkiest Fit” was awarded to Cate Blanchett, and “Sexiest Transformation” went to my favorite, Reese Witherspoon (Ryan Who?). Life & Style also had a spread about the after party styles because everyone knows you can’t be seen in the same dress you wore down the red carpet at the after party. This definitely gave Jennifer Hudson a chance to redeem her self after the not so cute gold Oscar de la Renta bolero she wore on the red carpet. I won’t hound her because I get it, it wasn’t her choice and we all still love Oscar. She moved on to a gold Roberto Cavalli frock from the after party which earned her the title of “Killer Curves”. Isn’t she lucky the quick change in the limo was invented? You can check out everyone who score some style gold in this weeks Life & Style Weekly which went on stands today.

I Wanna See My Name in Lights

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Accessories, Necklaces | Tuesday, 27 February 2007

Maybe it’s the extremely self absorbed part of me, but one of my favorite things is seeing something with my name on it. It doesn’t have to be something for me, but I get all giddy when I see something with Chelsea on it. There’s just a strange amusement I get out of it. You can pretend whatever that thing is that’s sporting your name is actually yours, at least for a second. But this doesn’t only apply to my name. Every time I see a Blythe doll tee I can’t help but smile to myself. Today was the best surprise name sighting I’ve had in a long time. I was going through the Ron Herman online store and while scrolling through the list of designers, there it was: Rock Candy Accessories. A streak of elation swept through my body. I obviously new it had nothing to do with Pink Rock Candy, but I couldn’t help but take a peep. There’s only four items, all necklaces, but I really liked them. Two of them were fairly classic. The always present initial necklace that obviously has to cost an arm and a leg or it wouldn’t be worth it, and there was the equally pricey butterfly pendant. The other two necklaces were sort of trendy. There is a skull pendant necklace which obviously piqued my interest due to my incurable pirate obsession, and the other necklace has a griffin pendant which I totally fancy. It’s very British prep-school, and I figure that isn’t such a bad place to be, especially if your magically the only girl in an all guys prep school (a girl can dream). I’m 136.4% sure your going to be on the look out for your name emblazoned across a building or maybe just scratched on a bathroom stall. The medium doesn’t really matter, it’s the feeling it gives you the counts.

Viktor & RolfAs I flipped through the pictures from the Viktor & Rolf show, I started to have flash backs of the America’s Next Top Model episode where the girls had to walk on a runway of floating blocks. I’m pretty sure I screamed more than once just during that one scene, but the Viktor & Rolf show was real life, not reality TV. The models also weren’t walking on floating blocks, but they did have to walk in wooden clogs, which is dangerous in it’s own right. My first thought was why wooden clogs? I personally think they are odd looking, but when I was really little I wanted a pair. But, that was only because I thought I could clog dance. The clogs, though completely strange, weren’t even the most dangerous part, as slippery as they may have been. Latched to the backs of each tiny model was a lighting contraption. Some were single poles with lights and speakers on the top and some were super crazy torture devices in the form of runway accoutrement. The models could barely move their arms much less keep balanced and walked down the runway with a look of absolute fear. Apparently the models were not the only ones completely horrified the audience was just as tense when they girls slipped and stumbled down the runway. I really hope the models were paid tons and tons of coinage to do this show.

The worst part about the horror movie mechanism was it completely took away from the clothes, and there were some extremely cute pieces. There was a beige coat with fur around the collar that I liked as long as it doesn’t come pinned to a light post. There was also this great dress with a tapestry type pattern on it, but again the way the skirt was fanned out using some sort of metal thingamajig (I feel like Dr. Seuss) was kind of distracting. I can’t actually focus on the clothes, because all I see is a metal beam coming out of their backs. So, I’ll say this, thankfully no one toppled over into the audience and I’m sure the show was completely thrilling. And, apparently the super thin model issue isn’t truly an issue at all. Those girls are troopers.

Not Quite Live from the Red Carpet

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Celebrities, Red Carpet | Monday, 26 February 2007

Cameron Diaz in ValentinoI’ve always been a fan of awards season. When I was younger, I would only get to watch the red carpet arrivals and then I would have to go to bed. I would get so bummed out because I wanted to see if so-and-so won. Now, the only reason I actually remember about an award show is so I can watch the red carpet. I usually try to watch a bit of the warad show in between the show I actually wanted to watch. Yesterday, I can officially say I watched none of the actual Academy Awards, but I watched the entire E! Live from the Red Carpet not once but twice. I was really bummed out that Rome was a re-run so I turned off the TV and went to bed early. On to my favorites.
It seems that if you wore a cream/white dress or a deep purple dress I liked it. At first I loved Cameron Diaz’s dress by Valentino, but after further inspection I realized I only like the top half of her dress. I totally loved her hair and make-up. My favorite dress by far was the Nina Ricci dress Reese Witherspoons wore. Reese looked absolutely radiant. I also think Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard looked so cute together. The Proenza Schouler dress she was wearing is completely a testament to their greatness. Maggie always takes chances and some don’t turn out so well, but this one definitely looked great on her.

And for team white, I loved Dame Helen Mirren’s dress. It was by Christian LaCroix. She is always well dressed and classy. I totally hope I look as great as she does when I get older. The dress actually was more of a beigey cream color, but I think Helen owned the red carpet last night. Finally, I love Jennifer Lopez’s empire waist dress from Marchesa. I loved the shorter hair.
