The weight issue is something that has been polarizing the fashion world of late. What is skinny? What is fat? On one side there are people like Tyra Banks telling women it’s okay to have a little junk in the trunk. She even went as far as to tell her critics “kiss my fat ass” on a recent show. On the other side are shows like VH1’s The Agency where on the first episode, agents called multiple female models fat when to me they looked healthy. Which side is right? There is always the argument that clothes look better of skinnier girls, but the problem with that is, we as a people are extremely impressionable. When the media shows us sickeningly skinny girls slinking down the runway, our brain says that’s what beauty is and I NEED to bee like that. This is why so many people have eating disorders in today’s society. This battle of the bulge brings me to the real reason I’m writing.
There is a great company called SpoonFed Art. SpoonFed Art is a company that makes gorgeous pendants out of the bowl of the spoon. I know this sounds strange, but the spoons are painstakingly filled with mementos and resin creating one of the prettiest things I’ve seen in a long time. Karin Collins, the creator of SpoonFed Art, started making these pendants as therapy for an eating disorder. After making these pendants for herself for a while and getting a ton and 1/2 of complements, Karin decided she would quit her job and pursue something she loved. SpoonFed Art has been featured in many magazines including Nylon and Health and was featured in LA Weekly in September. The best part about SpoonFed Art is Karin is a big supporter NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) and often takes part in online auctions where all the proceeds go to NEDA.
