Remixing My Wardrobe with Rocawear

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Accessories,Hoodies,Pants,Shirts,Shoes,Sunglasses | Friday, 22 June 2007

The other day I was driving to this super far mall with my siblings. It was a really nice day, and we had the windows down and were blaring the radio. (I know, so obnoxious.) Blythe and I are obsessed with Amy Winehouse. The obsession is pretty much because she laughs in the face of her problems, but I digress. “Rehab” came on the radio and we realized Jay-Z was in the background, so we turned it up louder. Apparently, he did a remix to Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”. It was sort of amazing, and my siblings and I started talking about how much we respect Jay-Z. He doesn’t pigeon hole himself into solely being a rapper or even to solely represent black culture. We all decided if one of our children ever told us they wanted to be like 50 Cent we’d flip, but if they said they wanted to be like Jay-Z we’d totally be okay with it.

Since I’ve officially decided I really respect Jay-Z, I went on Rocawear.com to see what clothes I liked. Even though my style is not typically “urban”, I think there is a way to wear any of clothing line no matter the style and make it you. I figured jeans are always a good place to start with anyones wardrobe. I found a super cute pair of capri’s called the Roc Bling Capri. Ever since I saw SJP in her Bitten capri’s I’ve swooned over every pair of jean capris I’ve seen. I then decided to find a great top to go with the capris. I found two tops, and couldn’t make a desicion as to which I like better. The first is called the Thermal Roc Top and is super casual. I like the fun all over print, and its a hoodie. That pretty much covers all the bases of my perfect henley type top. The other top is a spagetti strap tank that can be dressed up or down. Its called the Dry Sun Tunic Top. I love the braided straps, and right now I’m totally obsessed with anything that has an empire waist. The fact that it also comes in teal with a white, brown and teal braid makes me even more stoked. To finish the look off I needed to find accessories. So I snooped some more and eventually laid eyes on super hot white peep-toe pumps and a pair of rad sunglasses. The best part of either outfit is I would feel completely comfortable wearing them.

Transformer Shoes

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Shoes | Thursday, 21 June 2007

I’m the type of girl that wears heels all the time, and when I say all the time I mean I would forsake safety and comfort just to sport a cute pair. I also drive a lot. I’m sort of the unofficial (unpaid) taxi in my family. So when I saw that there are high heels that convert into flats for a safer driving experience, I just had to check it out. There are two different brands that I’ve seen.

The first is Camileon Heels. These shoes were created by Dr. David Handel, after he noticed how we women like to do a shoe change when walking in NYC. Honestly, the only reason I even dare to carry a large bag when I go to the city is so I can wear heels and then change into flats while I’m walking. He got the idea from the Transformers toys his sons were playing with. He decided to create a transformer shoe except it didn’t come to life, it just converted from a 3 1/4″ heel to a 1 1/2″ heel. Camileon Heels can also be purchased on Zappos.com!

The other convetable shoe is by a company called Sheila Wheels. They are a UK insurance company and have created the ‘Sheila Driving Shoe”. I don’t actually think they are for sale yet, but maybe in the future they will be. These pink and black shoes convert from a heel to a complete flat and have a tread on the sole of the shoe to help grip the pedals or slippery floors. (If only my shoes had treads the time I slipped in front of the entire football team in high school.) Driving with a flat shoe also lessens pressure on the knee and lower back which will make you more comfortable while driving. The Sheilas are definitely looking out for female drivers world wide.

The only downside of both convertible heels is they aren’t as cute as I would like them to be. Perhaps they could work with Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, or even Steve Madden to create some really fashionable heels that will convert to equally fashionable flats.

Music, Tees, and Myspace

Stella McCartney Glastonbury TankYesterday I read on Vogue.uk Stella McCartney has designed a tank for UK’s Glastonbury Festival (the biggest music festival in the UK). The tank is ultra hippie chic and screams “peace and love”. Stella says the design was inspired by “all the Seventies airbrushed T-shirts my mum and dad used to get made.” There are only going to be 5,000 printed, and you can only buy them at the Oxfam stall at Glastonbury. Even though the tanks are super limited that doesn’t bum me out. The thing that gets me down is I don’t live in the UK, and even if I did if I haven’t snapped up tickets yet I won’t be able to because they’re sold out. So, instead of creating a game plan to lurk ebay after Glastonbury hoping one of the tanks will show up for a billion dollars, I decided to do the next best thing. I scoured through our friends on MySpace and found some great t-shirts for everyone.

Live & Love Tee Disco Night Lights Tee Fashionista Tee

One of my favorite t-shirt companies is Glamour Kills. I’ve talked about them before, but they just released their new line of tees. One of those tees is the Live & Love Tee. I’m also obsessed with their Fashionista Tee and the mondo colorful Disco Night Lights Tee. GK also sponsor a ton of great bands like Cobra Starship, The Higher, Boys Like Girls, The Used, Saosin, Cartel, and 1997 which makes me love them even more (see all of the bands on the Glamour Kills MySpace).

Hawaii Sunshine Tee Rose Asphalt Top Sakura Dark Red Tee

If you love all things Japan, the Spicy Brown is for you. They sell everything from Tofu Robot toys to awesome tees by Kokeshi Ink, Moki, and Tofu. The first tee that caught my eye was a new one from Kokeshi Ink called the Hawaii Sunshine Tee. Another adorable tee from Kokeshi Ink is the Sakura Dark Red Tee. The Rose Asphalt Top from Tama Neko was the last tee I found, but I like it the best. The design is beautiful and I like that it is placed on the side and not smack dab in the middle of the top. Visit them on the Spicy Brown Myspace.

Perfect Purple Police Boy Tee White Rose Print Tee Little Police Boy v-Neck Tee

Redemption Department is a ebay store, but they do us all a favor by not putting things on auction. Everything on their site is set to “Buy it Now” so you won’t have to worry about those pesky last second bidders. Their tees are a mix of emo and totalitarianism. They have an odd obsession with dictators, but I think its all in good fun. I think… My favorite tee is the Perfect Purple Police Boy Tee. I like that the print is on the back of the tee. You can get friendly with them on the Redemption Department MySpace.

Nectar Tee Eye to Eye Tee Flying Solo Tee

Rara Avis is the only company that doesn’t have a MySpace yet. This might be because they are truly a baby company. They just started and actually only have three tees. The t-shirts are much more girlie than any of the others. All the tees have a bird theme whether it is two birds in the shape of a heart or a ton of tiny birds flying together with one flying in the opposite direction. Not only are the tees very pretty, Rara Avis donates a portion of each sale to RARE Conservation, a national conservation organization.

Anchor & Rope Tee Ship Tee Boombox Tee

The last t-shirt company is Six Barrel Hooliguns. If you’re as big of a music fan as I am, you’ve probably heard of them. There was a Hooliguns booth on this years Taste of Chaos and there will be one on Warped this year too. Even though I love the music connection, their tees also get me all giddy. I love the Rope & Anchor Tee and their Ship Tee because they obviously feed my pirate obsession. I also like the Boombox Tee. It reminds me of an early 90s, Kid and Play sort of thing. You can check them out on the Hooliguns MySpace and see all their rad music friends.

We Wanna Know: What are your favorite t-shirt companies?

Addicted to Lulu’s

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Dresses,Shirts,Skirts,Vests | Monday, 18 June 2007

Its blazing hot outside, I’m out of school and my pool is totally clean and just warm enough to swim in without getting frost bite or hypothermia, but what am I doing? I’m perusing through the many pages of ultra swank clothes on Lulu’s Fashion Lounge. If you haven’t heard of Lulu’s then you have been missing out, and thank goodness I’m here to inform you.

The first time I went on Lulu’s Fashion Lounge felt like the time I went to the Louvre in Paris. There was so much greatness I was overwhelmed. And, just like when I was at the Louvre I ended up looking at a few choice items then skedaddling because I knew it would take me forever to look at everything. There is that little phrase people like to use when rationalizing super expensive purchases, “quality over quantity”, but at Lulu’s you can get both quality and quantity. Most of their clothes are under $100 and are so cute I can’t even explain. They also get tons of new stuff in all the time. The only downside is they don’t usually restock the same items, so when something is sold out its sold out forever. That just means you should snap up that extra adorable dress you saw quickly because chances are others think the dress is just as awesome.

To check out my fave picks under $50 from Lulu’s Fashion Lounge just click on the price! Since we love you guys so much, we’ve arranged for you to get a 15% discount off your entire purchase until August 1st! All you have to do is type in pinkrockcandy at checkout.

Rock Your Style: Poster Girl

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Rock Your Style | Friday, 15 June 2007

A while ago I wanted to start something I called Rock Your Style. I wanted to show the world your rad style. I know it may have taken a while to get our first style icon, but it was well worth the wait. So without further ado, our very first, totally swank Pink Rock Style Icon is…

POSTER GIRL

Name: Poster Girl

Her Style: Here is one of my recent stylediary.net photos of one of my favorite summer outfits. I love the colored denim trend this season! Colored denim can be worn so many ways, and I think the bold colors are great for summer. This outfit reflects my casual trendy style and is something I’d wear for lunch or shopping with friends on a sunny day.

The gray cotton babydoll top is from H&M, the yellow skinny jeans are from Forever 21, and the ice cream cone necklace is from Oasis in London. I bought the white T-strap wedges from a shoe store at Topanga Plaza that I can’t remember. One of my style tips is that you don’t always have to spend lots of cash to get a great outfit! For going out, I would add a silver or blue handbag and maybe a chunky plastic ring to complete the outfit.

I recently returned from a trip to London, where the bright street styles and store window displays inspired me to be bolder with my wardrobe choices. London is a must-see city if you’re into fashion, as the shopping is endless and the street styles are creative.
