Who Will be America’s Next Top Model?

Chelsea Rae | Entertainment, TV | Wednesday, 29 August 2007

The new cycle of America’s Next Top Model premieres in three weeks and they have finally released a group picture of the new contestants. This year, it looks like American Apparel has styled the shoot.

Long live metallic bodysuits!

Tyra says this season of ANTM is all about the “future of fashion”, and apparently silver lamé is as futuristic as it comes.

All joking aside, if you take a better look at each girl, in the “Meet the Models” section, you will understand what Tyra means abut the future of fashion. In the industry, people are always searching for the new “IT” model, and usually these models are super unique. Irina Lazareanu and Lily Cole aren’t the typical beauty, but in their own way they are absolutely ravishing.

As always we should expect tons of drama, it is a reality show after all. There’s probably the crazy overly-outgoing girl that gets on everyone’s nerves, the girl that thinks she’s the shit, and the girl that thinks she’s trash but becomes one of the best contestants, but as always who’s actually going to be America’s Next Top Model is a total crap shoot.

Now Its On!

Just a week after the discovery of the Mammoth Crocs, I see a couple of Crocs post on StyleDash that make me want to scream. The first is about Crocs launching a clothing line (I know stay with me here), and the second shows a sweet little video that makes me sick to my stomach.

It seems that my arch nemesis at Crocs HQ have come up with a way to spin the spongy foam resin the shoes are made of into yarn. With this spongy resin yarn, they plan on making t-shirts, and I assume if they actually make a profit the line will expand. As inventive as shoe-shirts may be, I can’t help thinking all of their clothes will feel like they are made of the tarp or at the very least windbreaker material, but at least the clothes will be waterproof.

Right?

Not even seconds after having to process the idea of people walking around in neon tarps they call shirts, I had the honor of viewing a video made by the evil Croc Lords at LookatMyCrazyShoes.com. Its a nice little spoof of the Mac commercials. See the hilarity for yourself:

I personally believe the Mac commercials worked because Justin Long (the mac guy) was relatable. He had this awkward cuteness that makes girls in their teens and twenties swoon just a bit, but he wasn’t overly handsome so the guys weren’t intimidated. In the Crocs spoof however, the “Croc guy” is not really any of the things Justin Long is. I’m afraid to even try to understand who this ad is supposed to be directed towards. Not only that, but while are crocs being labeled “fun and funky” while normal shoes are said to be “socially awkward”?

I know I’m not the only advocate of a Croc-less society. What do you think about a Crocs clothing line and their new advertisements?

Gerard’s Umbrella and Patrick’s Ignition

Chelsea Rae | Concerts, Entertainment, Music | Tuesday, 28 August 2007

I love when musicians cover each others songs. One song that I think has been covered about a billion times since it came out is “Umbrella” by Rihanna. If you haven’t heard it then you’ve been living under a rock. I’ve gotten fairly tired of hearing everybody cover “Umbrella”, but when I heard Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance does a cover of it on the Projekt Revolution Tour I had to hear it. I didn’t expect much, but it was actually really good. Gerard has an interesting voice that one might not think would work with the song but it does in this strange way (no pun intended).

While I’m in the spirit of sharing strange but totally rad covers, I found a video of Patrick Stump (the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, for those not in the know) singing a sweet version of Akon’s “Don’t Matter’ and R. Kelly’s “Ignition”.

Patrick’s voice always makes me swoon!

Nicole Miller De-Fuzzed

Chelsea Rae | Fashion Week, News | Monday, 27 August 2007

Last Wednesday, Lisa Smilor, the associate director of the CFDA, sent an email to the organization members informing them of potential anti-fur rallies that may occur during fashion week. One rally in particular was going to be staged during Nicole Miller’s fashion show. The message above from the NYC Animal Rights Group was posted on an anti-fur groups website with Miller’s show date, time, and location encouraging members to participate.

On Friday, Nicole Miller and her chief executive officer, Bud Konheim, released a statement defending the company (obviously). In it they quoted their average percent of garments with fur as less than 1% and listed many different animal protection charities they donate to.

After they thoroughly play the we are good people and don’t see anything wrong with using fur card, you almost get the feeling there may in fact be a bit of drama on the first day of NY fashion week, but they finish by saying:

“In reflecting upon our creative and personal philosophies, we are fur free from the Spring 2008 collection forward. This is in line with our values and priorities, and the already 99.92 percent fur-free nature of our business.

We do not intend for this statement to be seen as any endorsement of NYC Animal Rights nor any other organization using illegal, bullying, intimidating, or violent actions in support of any cause.”

That’s right, Nicole Miller is officially fur free, and there aren’t going to be any anti-fur rallies in Miller’s future. Apparently, the scared straight method works with fashion designers.
