One of our favorite blogs, Fashion Indie, is crossing the bridge into the world of glossies. They will officially be the first fashion blog to make it into the print market, and all this is happening in just a few short weeks. Fashion Indie magazine will launch on September 7th, and take the world by storm (at least we hope).
They are also having a big launch bash for the mag that same night with great music from DJ TinyPants, a fashion show from Love Brigade, and a 3 hour open bar. What more could a little fashionista ask for?
If you’re in the NYC area and want to head to the party, you have to RSVP at going.com/fashionindie.
Our favorite politically incorrect supermodel, Janice Dickinson, is joining in on the PETA fun. On Monday, she and her nearly-nude (and some quite naked) models hit the streets of Hollywood to support PETA’s “We’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign.
Janice also recently instituted a “fur-free” policy for her modeling agency, The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.
Truthfully, this protest might just be because she doesn’t like words that start with “F” (except fuck of course), fur, fat, food. Who needs that crud anyway?

There are many things in this world that are completely wrong, but since they are the norm we tend to turn a blind eye towards it. One of these things is the lack of women of color in fashion magazines. Unfortunately, the world is used to seeing pale-skinned uber-skinny models on the pages of Vogue and such, but Naomi Campbell is taking a stand against this.
Though Naomi was one of the first models to be called a supermodel, even she feels slighted sometimes and says “only white models, some of whom are not as prominent as I am, are put on splash pages.”
What is she going to do about this problem, you ask?
Well she wants to set up a modelling program in Kenya, one of her favorite vacation spots. National Nine News says she has been “impressed by local beauties and see a market for African faces on the world stage.” Naomi also proclaimed,”I don’t want to quit modelling until I find that black models get equal prominence and recognition by the world media and information instruments.”
This may be a good start, but confining the black model search to Africa is just as bad as almost having no black models. Modelling agencies just need to keep their eyes open, and perhaps expand their palette a bit. Different is always the most successful in the modeling world.
It’s funny how things like this are staring us straight in the face, but we don’t talk about it until something tragic happens, or a person more influential than we are brings it up. Perhaps, Naomi’s take no prisoners attitude will actually help get a few more women of color in the glossies!

Crocs have become public enemy #1 to us fashionistas. As comfortable as they could be, we just don’t like them. Many fashion mavens might be inclined to call them gauche to be polite to the populous that adore these rubber creations, but in light of recent discoveries, I can no longer remain tight-lipped on the subject.
In my completely shoe-obsessed opinion, Crocs are frightfully ugly. I initially saw them in a magazine for use in the garden, and I can honestly say I wouldn’t even wear them there, much less in public. Sorry!
If you are wondering what was the straw that broke the camel’s back, then taking a little look at the Crocs ‘mammoth’ shoe may help you understand. Basically, they are a normal pair of Crocs with a Uggs inspired lining. (Don’t even get me started on Uggs!)
I’m sure many were hoping Crocs would be non-existent during the cool, snow-filled winter months, but apparently that’s not going to happen.
Look on the bright side, thanks to these beauts Crocs-hating can be a year-round sport!
