The ELLE Makeover Challenge

Chelsea Rae | Contests, Magazines | Friday, 28 September 2007

Elle, October 2007 - Reese WitherspoonELLE is full of great content, and they want you, yes YOU to be part of it. Have you ever wanted to try out a new hair color or maybe just make a change from your usual mascara and lip gloss routine? The people at ELLE want to see your makeovers, and they will pick one of you to be in the magazine.

Here’s how it works:
Just take some before and after shots of your makeover (myspace pose optional), and email them to ellemakeover@hfmus.com. Make sure you tell them your name, age, profession, where you live, and write a statement (no more than 100 words) about how your look changed and why you love it.

The winner of the contest gets a round-trip ticket to NYC and a two-night hotel stay. You also get a complimentary makeover, inspired by your winning makeover, and will be photographed and put in the January 2008 issue of ELLE. If that is awesome, I’m not sure what is.

Simply Vera On Sale Already

Chelsea Rae | Dresses, Fall/Winter | Friday, 28 September 2007

Simply Vera Contrast DressEveryone, including myself, was extremely stoked for the Simply Vera collection to come to Kohl’s, but not a month after its release everything is on sale at the Kohl’s webstore. This is a great because it means this fab ‘Contrast Dress’ is $18 cheaper, and all the other swoon-worthy products follow suit. The question is why has the line gone on sale so quickly?

Since I am a fairly critical consumer, and am taking both sociology and philosophy this semester in school, I have come up with an answer (I’m not sure the schooling really helped but…). People who shop at Kohl’s aren’t willing to pay almost 90 bucks for a dress, and the people who are willing to shell out for clothes are not shopping at Kohl’s.

Was this problem really unforeseen? Did the Kohl’s merchandising director not realize most of their clothes cost no more than $50. Sure its Vera Wang, and yes, to me Vera Wang is a force to be reckoned with, but I spend most of my free time thinking about clothes and fashion. Do the less fashion savvy Americans really care who Vera Wang is? Maybe all the mark downs answers that question, but who knows!

Nylon Mag Party: La Renaissance - Chicago, IL

It’s pretty harsh living in the Midwest, especially when you hear about all these great parties in NYC and LA. Well, NYLON and NYLON Guys are showing the Mid West some love and partying it up on Sunday at La Renaissance in Chicago. The charity fashion show/party will benefit Imerman Angels and organization that connects people currently fighting cancer with people who have beaten it. If you’re in live around there or are just visiting for the weekend make sure to stop by, party, and support a good cause.
