Dorothy goes ‘Over the Rainbow’ Once Again

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Entertainment,Movies,TV | Tuesday, 04 September 2007

The Wizard of Oz may quite possibly be the most famous movie ever, and to celebrate its 70th anniversary, the good people at Warner Brothers plan to remake it.

Actually, not only do the plan to remake it, they plan to modernize it. Dorothy is no longer going to be an innocent farm girl lost in dream land, but “a tough-talking heroine”, as its put by MarieClaire.uk, and Tom McFarlane says “Dorothy is much closer to the character Ripley from Alien than a helpless girl in our film.”

Why is it that the first thing that comes to mind when the phrase “tough-talking heroine” is thrown around, is a girl dressed in Rocawear with a terrible Brooklyn accent.

Stupid stereotypes!

Though they say they want a tougher Dorothy, their choice actress is Natalie Portman who just screams angelic. As phenomenal of an actress as she is, whether she can pull off “tough-talking” is yet to be decided. Perhaps they should go for a less sexy version of Natalie’s character in Closer. We think she played that exceptionally well!

We Wanna Know: What do you think of a modern day remake of the Wizard of Oz, and who do you think should play the leads?
