Viva La Cobra!

Chelsea Rae Simmons | CDs, Entertainment, Music | Monday, 10 September 2007

Good news for Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen fans (myself included). The new Cobra Starship album, lovingly name Viva La Cobra!, will hit stores on October 23rd. It is coming out earlier than anyone could have thought, but considering the band was created because of a movie/because Gabe was on a bad trip, putting a record out so quickly after the first isn’t so crazy after all.

They started writing Viva La Cobra!, whose title is taken from the Gym Class Heroes song “Viva La White Girl” (Gabe says he had to pay Travie $75 to use it), on the Honda Civic Tour over the summer. Gabe says, “We weren’t planning on releasing a new album so quickly, but by the end of the tour we had almost 15 songs written.” They began recording after they finished the tour and voila.

If you’ve heard the last Cobra Starship record, While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets, you’ll know what to expect lyrically, tons of snark and strong hooks. With songs titled “Damn You Look Good And I’m Drunk (Scandalous)”, “Prostitution Is The World’s Oldest Profession (And I, Dear Madame, Am A Professional)”, and “Smile Wide for the Paparazzi,” you can’t really ask for more than a few tongue and cheek lyrics and a great chorus, but they give you more because Patrick Stump, being the amazing musician he is (I have a bit of a music crush), produced the entire thing.

This record might have me throwing my fangs up all October!
