CBGB Reincarnated
I’ll admit it. I love Rock! If you haven’t been able to tell from the entertainment section, its sort of as much of an obsession as fashion. Come to think about it, maybe the obsessions are one in the same. Rock musicians have always seemed to affect the way people dress whether they are purposefully dressing like their favorite rockstar or inadvertently because the musicians have inspired a mainstream trend. One of the most influential places in punk rock history (musically and fashionably) is the now closed CBGB, but in Spring 2008 it will re-open.
Well, sort of…
Designer John Varvatos has bought 315 Bowery, a.k.a. CBGB, and is planning on opening a second store (the first is on 122 Spring St. in SoHo) in the 3,300-square-foot locale. Varvatos is known for having rock inspire is clothing and has even had Alice Copper, Slash, Ryan Adams, and Iggy Pop in his ad campaigns. There are tons of ideas being thrown around about what to do with the new space including having a stage where up-and-coming musicians can perform a la CBGB. Varvatos is also thinking of designing a unique rock and roll inspired line for his new store, and donating portions of the proceeds to an artist development fund.
I have a request of you John, if you happen to stumble upon this when and if you google yourself. Get Debbie Harry to model the new line, just as a reminder of the good old CBGB days, (too bad I wasn’t even born when Blondie was playing there.

That. Is. Awesome.
And I fully second the Debbie Harry idea.
xoxo.
Long Live CBGB! Is he going to keep the infamous bathroom intact, or has that already been sent to Vegas?
Hmmm, they should totally send it to Vegas, but have giant pictures of it in the actual bathroom. Memorabilia like that only belongs in Vegas…haha
