The Perfect Interview Outfit
Its Winter, the time of the year when snow hinders driving, the chilly temperatures cause sandals to go into hiding, and a million girls start scrabbling to fill the few summer intern positions in the fashion industry. As in every industry looking professional is important. If you are interviewing for a position in a scientific field a nice suit would be the best option, but wearing a boring suit to an interview for Betsey Johnson is not an option. So, what do you wear to an interview in the fashion world?
No, really, what do you wear?
I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m currently applying for tons and tons of fashion pr internships hoping to get my foot in the door, but as much as I go over my resume, I know the clothes I wear will make just as much of an impact. I’ve devised three different plans.
The first is my least favorite because it doesn’t involve spending money, and unfortunately for my credit card, that is one of my favorite past times. This option includes wearing clothes I already have or shopping at Blythe’s Closet and wearing something of hers.
The second option is heading to Style.com, and go through the fall line of every designer I’m applying for an internship with. I may not be able to buy the exact outfit, but I can do a damn good job replicating it within my budget. Even though I’d be doing faux designer, buying a different outfit for each interview will start to add up. That brings me to my last option.
One great outfit that will fit my budget and will work for every interview. To find this, I headed to my favorite place to find cheap, possibly knocked-off clothing, Forever21, and found this terrif knit tunic and rad blouse to go under it. The Evaan Gathered Knit Tunic is casual, but is dressed up with the Aubrey Swing Shirt. I would take off the flower on the tunic and tie the bow in its place. The outfit is almost a blank slate so you can make it your own by the accessories you wear with it.

Great advice, I think there’s much more room to be creative and colorful when you’re interviewing for a position in the fashion industry as opposed to banking, real estate, or insurance.

Where am I not applying! I have a list that is probably a mile long and includes everything from Ralph Lauren to Betsey Johnson to Marc Jacobs (I’m very hopeful).
