I love your thoughts! I normally don\'t even bother to leave comments, but I wanted to let you know that you hit the nail on the head!

Court---
I'm still not quite sure what annoys me so about judging others style and having my style being judged by others, but you definitely have given me a bit of food for thought. I'm still "finding my way" and obviously the way I dress is a big part of it, and to me I just want to wear whatever I want. It just really strikes a cord when I realized other people were actually paying attention. It sort of freaked me out...

If you feel the urge to question the subliminal control "style" has on your life, you're on cource to question all the other invisible structures that constitute your daily regimen. It's healthy to be skeptical towards the powers that be. It's frustrating not to know who exactly they (are what they) are. My guess is it will help you make more fulfilling "fashion" choices if you're willing to wonder who benefits (and who does not) from the choices you make. And it will also be helpful to be aware that whatever you do and whatever you wear conveys some sort of message to the people around you. Indeed, you're not being obnoxious at all. You're responding to an environment structured out of technological developments that are increasingly fracturing individuals from their sense of self. I wonder if maybe you're questioning someone else's ability to judge your outward, non-verbal forms of communication when you, yourself, are unsure of whether or not you know what it is you want to communicate. Maybe I'm totally off (I'm in the middle of writing papers and have been inevitably been affected with some historian-philosophers zeal for enviro-communication deconstruction).

Anyway, it seems to me your response is natural and that it's your prerogative to feel frustrated along a road to self-discovery when commercial institutions are eager to construct your identity for you. My advice? Live instinctually and never stop being suspicious. (God, I have no idea if I made any sense in this post...)

Style to me means the way in which your unique taste shows in a good way. It's an individual thing for everyone.
