Kloss in Numéro 92

I will admit, I’ve been quite critical of late. I’ll also admit, I’m not the biggest Karlie Kloss fan made evident when I criticized her Blue Steel, but I really, really like her spread in the Numéro 92. Something about her overly fierce stare just works with the clothes and the contrast between the Delfina Delettrez spooky eye jewelry, the crazy scalloped eye makeup, and her signature glare totally works, and goddammit, the girl just always seems to take a fabulous picture.
I’m more and more wishing US magazines would start to be a little edgier like their European counterparts, but I know very few magazines will ever surpass the spice magazines like Numéro and i-D provide. Luckily, the interweb gives us lots of access to those magazines we might never read otherwise.
Also I really like the Chloe dress in the picture above, though I’m not sure I’d have the guts to hop in the pool with it. I also spy one of the Prada skirts I’m in love with, sigh!

i can not believe how young she is! i have a feeling she is going to continue to do big things in the modeling industry. & I agree about the US needing edgier magazines. thank god for the internet!

Very nice pix…on the whole European fashion mags are better because they still use models, not celebrities, and they are not afraid to do some of the edgier shoots. We have our designers here who are all about raunch and edge (Tom Ford, anyone?) but they get a lot of flack, and let’s not forget, middle-aged mothers purchase Vogue just like the mid-20s hipster set. I am not a big fan of any one trick pony, particularly with musicians (Soulja Boy, Rihanna, etc), so Karlie Kloss is no exception in my mind. But this is a surprisingly good shoot.
I don’t love this shoot. I like the pictures individually but as a set, I keep feeling that it’s the same thing. Her face looks the same! But they are good pictures on their own.
Karlie’s singular glare definitely bothers me, but something about the shoot drew me to it.

I’m not sure how far Karlie will go, considering how disposable models are, but I definitely wish her the best.
E.Jay:
I love Tom Ford, and he’s definitely raunchy, but he doesn’t really do anything with women’s fashion anymore, which is very sad. I’m patiently awaiting his return to the world of women’s wear. I think middle-aged mothers might appreciate a shack and awe editorial every once in a while, but that just might be me projecting. I also know what you mean about the one trick pony thing. Rihanna I don’t mind so much, but Soulja Boi really bothers me. Kloss’s devil glare scares me, and I think she needs to work on her facial expressions, but there really isn’t anything I can do to change them. That’s just her perception of fierce, I guess.

I’m not sure how much I like the shoot as a collection of pictures either, but a lot of the pictures did catch me. Perhaps it was just the fact that I thought she was cursing me with her eyes, who knows!
