I'm a former Conde Nast intern & I also got paid because I was no longer in school & couldn't earn credits for my time. Non-paid interns are earning school credits. Also, if you knew anything about Sean Avery... Fashion is his passion. His dream is to work at a fashion magazine. Hockey is a sport that he is good at (I'm guessing that being born in Canada helped him get into hockey in the first place) & if someone is willing to pay him millions to have fun playing hockey why wouldn't he? AND - Why can't he spend his time off learning about his passion? When he retires from hockey he'll be more prepared for the fashion magazine world. My point - if the magazine industry would pay him the same thing he makes playing hockey he probably wouldn't be playing hockey.
