2 Things For Fall

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Fall/Winter,Pants,Think About It | Thursday, 28 August 2008

Pink Rock Candy, Chelsea Rae

There are two things every girl needs this fall. I know what you’re thinking. “Just two? I started writing my back to school wish list on February and haven’t stopped writing since!” But, I’m stripping things down to the bare necessities, and it would take forever to type my fall 2008 wish list. So, the first thing we all need, for this fall and all falls to come, is the perfect pair of jeans. Even if you happen to be one of those people who never wear pants and only own legs because some of your skirts show a little too much of your assets, jeans are a definite necessity.

If you’re into longevity, go for the tried and true boot cut jean. They basically make everyone look amazing, especially when in a darker denim. These are the type of jeans that will last you through many seasons, so it’s best to buy the best quality boot cut jeans as you can afford.
Try: Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Angela’ Bootcut Jeans, $188

If you want to seem of the moment head to your local H&M, Topshop, or Forever 21 and snag a pair of skinny, boyfriend cut, or wide leg jeans. Sure, jeans should be an investment, but when they might go out of style in a matter of months it’s much more cost effective to purchase from lower-end stores.
Try: The Forever 21 Jeans Shop

If you want to be really ballsy or are a fixture on The Sartorialst, you can go out and find what I like to call the drop-crotch jeans, but others will be a bit more PC and refer to them as jodhpurs or Sahara pants— but these aren’t usually found in denim. I personally would rather not have to walk around wearing a sign saying privates may appear lower than actually are, so I’ll stay away from this style.
Try: ‘Mary Meyer’ black sahara pant, $115 from Oak NYC

The second thing we all need is to stop saying “Fierce!” It was great when Christian Siriano started calling everyone a fierce tranny, but when exactly does the madness stop. I feel like I’m back in the 5th grade and everyone is saying “As if!” and “What *long pause* everrr!” but now we’re all older and more mature so I assume we can figure out a synonymous adjective to fierce. If in the event your mind has completely blanked, here are a few suggestions:

  • If you’d like to follow the true translation of fierce go for: savage, ferocious, or brutal
  • Want to sound like a disguised drag queen? Try saying: divine, fabulous, or even scandalous
  • Are you truly amazed? How about: exquisite, ravishing, poetic, or stunning
  • Are you impressed, but would like to keep an air of indifference? Denote the item: lovely, charming, or personable

I love “fabulous” and “stunning.” Those are such great adjectives! I read an article about Rachel Zoe’s new show and how she’s always saying “I die” and “shut it down.” Maybe those will catch on and people will stop saying “fierce” and “hot mess.”

Haha very true point, fierce is really overused. But sometimes I find its the only word to describe really, really, REALLY hot shoes!
