Pantone’s Picks for Spring 2009

Chelsea Rae Simmons | News, Spring/Summer | Thursday, 11 September 2008

NY Fahion Week isn’t even over, and Pantone has already delegated the colors for Spring 2009. It’s slightly surprising. One would think they’d take a bit of time to digest all of the collections and maybe play with different colors and ideas, but apparently the Pantone people know what they want and aren’t afraid to put it out there. So, what do they want?

Pink Rock Candy, Pantone colors, Spring 2009

Pantone’s official 10 colors of Spring 2009 are Fuchsia Red, Salmon Rose, Palace Blue, Lucite Green, Super Lemon, Dark Citron, Lavender, Vibrant Green, Slate Gray, and Rose Dust. Technically, Pantone’s color palette each season is supposed to be the palette that controls most mass produced items, intern controlling our lives. However, I’m not sure that is completely true, but its kind of scary to think one company can have so much chromatic command.

Honestly, I like most of the colors. I’m a little unsure about the Fuschia Red because the shade seems a bit off, but 1 out of 10 is a pretty good deal.

My favorite color is either Palace Blue or Lucite Green, and I’m still obsessing over grays of all shades so the Slate Gray is up there too. What are your favorite and least favorite colors?

Hi mom, these are some springtime colors that I was thinking about when I talked to you this am. What do you think of them? You two can wear one color (ether the Palace Blue/Lucite Green/ or Vibrant Green) and then Madison and I can wear the lavender. I really don't look good in green or yellow or rose; the fuschia red is pretty though. Let me know okay?
  • Jill & Ariel:
Now that I think about it, I'm not too sure about the rose dust either. I like the color in general, but as a piece of clothing— I don't know!

    Poster Girl:
Color forecasting does sound fun. I wonder how one gets into such a profession.

    Secretista:
    Yes, we need to talk!

    lauren:
I like the slightly muted colors too!

I actually really like these color picks! A nice slightly muted palate. I'm excited!:)

  • Fuchsia Red?

Bleh. I don't like! I guess will have to see if these colors dominate in Spring 09.

Dude. We need to talk. I'm thinking about nixing our project for now. I'm uber busy, but I don't want to 'cuz I want to do this, but I feel like we need a diff. advisor 'cuz she's horrible at contact. Anddddd I'll talk to you soon.

  • I think I agree with Jill. Loves the blues and greens, the salmon rose and lavender but not so much the rose dust. I also like the yellow.

  • I love the slate gray, lavender, palace blue, and lucite green. I could browse the Pantone color books for hours - we used to use them at my previous job. Color forecasting sounds so fun!

  • I'm not sure how I'll feel about the rose dust on any garment, but I'm a big fan of the salmon rose, lavender and greens.
