On the Foley + Corinna Fringe

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Dresses,Fashion,Sales | Wednesday, 25 February 2009

Pink Rock Candy, Foley + Corinna ombre fringe dress

It runs in my family— a fondness for sparkles, ruffles, and anything shimmy, that is. I’ve tried to break myself of this, constantly pushing my tender thoughts of pailletted Miu Miu shoes and ruffled dresses to the back of my mind, but no longer can I resist the need for something that will make noise, glint, or swoosh when I move.

That being said I desperately want this layered ombre fringe dress from Foley + Corinna.

I have absolutely no idea where I would wear a fringe dress, and to be honest, unless you’re a flapper for Halloween, I’m not sure it’s completely appropriate to wear a fringe covered dress— fringe skirt, absolutely, but dress?

No matter the propriety, I would be more than willing to shell out the necessary $495 to procure this little number at Shopbop.com, especially the teal and brown version. However, I’m still trying not to buy clothes after my adventure with the Lim dress, of which I still have yet to wear out— maybe tomorrow! Thus, I’ll have to go without being able to literally shimmy down the street, but I’m sure I’ll have sweet twirling dreams of this dress tonight.

p.s. Foley + Corinna are having a sample sale this weekend in LA. Follow the jump for more info. (more…)

My Love Affair With Lim

Pink Rock Candy, CHelsea Rae, 3.1. Phillip Lim distressed silk baby doll dress

I thought things would wind down after fashion week, but my life is just as hectic as it has been for the past month. Fortunately, when I get a bit stressed, all I have to do is go in my closet and stroke my favorite new purchase.

On Valentine’s Day, I went out with my parents and after a bit of prodding by my dad bought this amazing 3.1 Phillip Lim dress from a vintage store by my house. The first time I went to the store, I thought it was extremely pretentious— not to personify a store.

However, after actually spending some time sifting through the extensive racks of Chanel tweed suits, mink and fox fur coats, and designer footwear, all of which I can’t afford even at their reduced prices, I found a little section with cute cocktail and day dresses I could actually see myself wearing and buying for that matter.

I’m really not the label whore type who will buy something just because it’s designer. As a college student, I can’t quit afford to buy only designer duds, but I just couldn’t pass up a Phillip Lim dress for only $220. Plus, the exposed seams were just distressed enough to fit my slightly disheveled personality and life.

Even though I knew the dress was a good buy, I still couldn’t fully bring myself to purchase the dress— I’d never bought any clothing item $100 myself, and wasn’t sure if I was willing to splurge on this dress, however, my loving, shopaholic father aided in the rationalization process, et voilà.

This is the official beginning of my love affair with Lim!

Tip Your Hats to Anna Sui

Pink Rock Candy, Anna Sui fall/winter 09-10, hair accessories

It’s mind boggling to think New York Fashion week is already over. This season was such a whirlwind, I barely had time to look at the daily photos of each runway show. Over the weekend I tried to catch up a bit, but since fashion week is more like fashion month with off shoots happening all year, there truly is no catching up. I’m sure everyone is going to be raving/raging about the number of designers who featured over-sized and accentuated shoulders, but I have better things to lust over. Exhibit A: the fabulous accoutrements de tête at the Anna Sui Autumn/Winter 09-10 fashion show.

There were feathers, sparkles, big hats, little hats, and tiaras. Agyness Deyn made her NYFW debut, with longer hair than we’ve seen her with in a while, and the entire collection reminded me of a party I wish I could throw. Swoon!

Miss Sui, I wish I could have been at your show, but unfortunately I was busy setting up for a different fashion show that night. I heard the booming bass as t he show began though, and could feel the energy through the thin walls of the tents.

What were your favorite shows at NYFW?

Sick Siriano Shoes

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Accessories,Fall/Winter,Fashion,Fashion Week,Shoes | Sunday, 22 February 2009

Pink Rock Candy, Christian Siriano, fall/winter 09-10, Payless shoes

Christian Siriano is almost everyone’s favorite Project Runway winner either because his designs are actually appreciated or because his snarkedelic attitude never fails to amuse. Siriano’s Fall/Winter 09-10 runway show was Christian through and through with lots of ruffles, the skinniest of skinny pants, and wonderfully structured blouses and dresses. However, it’s the shoes that are getting my attention.

It isn’t that any of the footwear designs are groundbreaking— to be honest, they are vaguely reminiscent of the horned heels Christian Louboutin designed for Rodarte two seasons ago— the most exciting part of the gold cone-shaped heels and spiked toes is that they will be sold at Payless for between $25 and $45.

I’m not sure if those shoes are the exact shoes that will be sold or if Payless will be creating cheaper versions made of lesser quality materials— it’s quite hard to tell whether the leather is real of fake in the photos. No matter the quality, I’m completely willing to sacrifice a toe or two for fashion and these shoes are quite delightful, considering most Payless shoes.

Not only is Siriano designing shoes for Payless, but according NY Mag, the other accessories, i.e. bags, he sent down the runway will also be available at Payless in fall 09 when his line hits stores too.

p.s. Siriano totally looks like he’s getting into that snap. He almost seems like the ferocity is so extreme he’s about to topple over. I’m with you Christian!

Tinted Windows

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Entertainment,Music,News | Wednesday, 18 February 2009
Pink Rock Candy, Tinted Windows band

What is Tinted Windows, and why is it important that it’s coming soon?

Apparently, unless some underhanded clock turner has set my clock back to February 18 all the while it’s actually April 1st, Tinted Windows is the unbelievable merging of Smashing Pumpkin’s badass guitarist James Iha, Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger, and Taylor Hanson doing vocal duties.

I’ll let that sink it a bit…

Anything Smashing Pumpkins is bound to get me excited about the melodic future, but adding Taylor Hanson— the Hanson brother everyone thought was a girl, but I lusted over for at least the last three years of the 20th Century— to the mix is slightly off-putting in multiple ways.

The hopefully matured music consumer that I’ve become is slightly confused as to how Taylor Hanson managed to squeeze himself into this equation, but the 10-year-old girl in me just went,” Eeeeee! Taylor Hanson!”

Either way, I’m stoked to hear what comes of this warlock of a rock band when they release their already recorded, but as of yet, untitled, album this spring. Also, according to Billboard.com, Tinted Windows is playing at Billboard’s showcase at SXSW on March 20.

p.s. I know it’s fashion week. I know there are shows to review. I KNOW…Marc Jacobs!

p.p.s. That is not by any means the official graphic for tented windows. It’s from the Oh No They Didn’t post.
