The Bag’s a Stud

Pink Rock Candy, Chelsea Rae, DIY Studded Alexander Wang bag

The other day, Geri from Because I’m Addicted posted a picture of an Alexander Wang studded bad, that I could look at for the rest of my life, but undoubtedly, and unfortunately, will never own. However, tucked inside the post with the lust-worthy bag was a link to Park & Cube.

That little internet wormhole led to a DIY project to make your own Alexander Wang inspired bag. After procrastinating for a bit over the holiday weekend, and realizing sitting in a hospital room with my sick brother all day every day is intensely boring, I headed to Micheal’s to find studs so I could Wang-out an old fake leather bag I bought years ago.

The only studs in stock weren’t as large as I had hoped for, but I think overall, the my little project was a success.

It was super easy to add studs, all I did was push the studs into the fabric and used a butter knife to fold in the prongs as directed on the blog. I totally bought too many studs, so I offered to bedazzle my little brother’s hospital gown. Sadly, he declined.

Follow the jump for more pictures.

  • Hi Chelsea! :) Hmm yea the Marc by MJ dress can get a bit too girly but I think it would look great with a shirt under and beat up Chucks. Very grunge rock.

Oh and the DIY bag looks great. I want to do something like that as well but can't seem to find proper studs here in the Philippines :/
  • You're amazing at DIYs. Actually, you're amazing at a lot of things. I don't think the bag's a studd, I think the girl in the picture is. Who is she??? :p I totally want to do this...

  • This DIY sounds good. I am looking for something to DIY, might be taking this into consideration. Thanks for sharing :)
  • Oh the bag looks great! I never would have guessed it was DIY. I love that the studs match the original hardware perfectly, I think that's what makes it looks so finished. Also, this is probably kind of nosy of me to say, but I hope that your brother gets better!

I linked to a stud DIY on my blog, but the one you found is way better. I agree, bigger studs would have rocked harder, but that does look great. I might have to break down and DIY my own, as I do have a black hobo with a flat bottom that is begging for some adornment. Love the job you did, for serious, I wouldn't ever have guessed it was a DIY.
