Gap Celebrates 40 Years with Denim Pop-Up Shop

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Events,Fashion | Monday, 31 August 2009

Pink Rock Candy, Gap 1969 denim concept store

Fashion Week is coming up quicker than I thought, and I’m already feeling the rush of anticipation. As most of you know, on September 10th, 2009, Vogue will be staging their own worldwide economic intervention called Fashion’s Night Out, but also starting September 10th, GAP will open their 1969 3-floor denim concept store on Kingly Court in London to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

Gap’s 1969 concept store will sell 69 pairs of each iconic denim style, specially produced for the pop-up shop, including designs by Pierre Hardy, Albertus Swanepoel, and Pharrell Williams’ new Bionic Gap Collection— initially produced in association with Gap Japan and Patrick Robinson.

On the opening day only, London shoppers can buy a limited edition pair of Gap (PRODUCT)REDTM rinsed jeans in whatever Gap fit you absolutely love for only £19.69. Half of those profits will go toward the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.

If that’s not enough, throughout the 19 days the pop-up shop will be open, they will have in-store performances by many breakthrough artists including a Pink Rock Candy fave, Temposhark, and photographer and street style blogger, Garance Doré will curate an exhibition of her street style photos and illustrations.

As much as I love New York City, I wish I could pick it up and drop it smack dab in the middle of the English Channel so I could be part of amazing events in London and Paris, like the Gap 1969 concept store.

Gap 1969 Denim Concept Store:
September 10th, 2009 – October 5th, 2009
G7 / G8 Kingly Court, Carnaby, London, W1

If you do happen to be in the area, you can get more information at www.gap1969.com.

PRC Featured in Lipstick Royalty Magazine

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Magazines,Pink Rock Candy | Sunday, 30 August 2009

I’ve had the luck of being featured in three different magazines (two magazines and one magazine’s blog) this summer— previously, I was featured on the TeenVOGUE blog and in Fringe Indie magazine. My latest summer feature is  in the September 2009 issue of Lipstick Royalty magazine, created by the amazing, 16-year-old, Rachel Phipps who also runs the blog ‘Cause I Waste My Life Pretending and started the ‘Who Wants To Be A Size Zero Anyway’ campaign I talked about in June.

I really appreciate Rachel and everyone who took the time to feature Pink Rock Candy this summer. Read my interview with Rachel where I talk about my love for bassists, first posting about my sister’s death, and types for starting a fashion blog, among other things.

If you would like to interview me about Pink Rock Candy feel free to email me at pinkrockfashion@gmail.com.

Beauty Lust: CHI Keratin Mist

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Beauty | Sunday, 30 August 2009
pink rock candy, Chelsea Rae Simmons, cationic hydration spray keratin mist

Since I got my bangs cut, I’ve had nothing but hair calamity— not because of the haircut, but because life happens. First my blow dryer broke while I was trying to dry my puppy’s fur. Then my mom sent my dad to buy another, and it was complete trash. Now all my problems are solved and then some.

I just bought a Vidal Sassoon: Answers blow dryer for normal to coarse hair. It does wonders for straightening my hair, but my hair has been really frizzy due to the humidity and amount of shampooing I’ve had to do because I enjoy visiting the pool and beach in my free time.

To solve this problem, I purchased this Cationic Hydration Interlink (CHI) spray called Keratin Mist. After having sprayed it on my damp hair, blowing it dry and flat ironing as usual, my hair is not only light, but it’s shiny and has very little frizz— it’s a bit rainy so I can’t complain.

CHI Keratin Mist and other CHI products can be purchased at most drug stores.

As you might have noticed, I’ve changed the Pink Rock Candy graphics a bit. More and more, I find I like things to be sleeker and I think I have created a sleeker image for PRC.

Along with the change in image, I have added an Advertising Policy that can be viewed at anytime if you click the ‘Ad Policy’ link to the right. The PRC Advertising Policy not only includes text link and static image ads, but guidelines on giveaways and sending samples to be reviewed by me. Style How-To: Cream Motorcylce Jacket

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Fashion,Style How-to | Friday, 28 August 2009

Yesterday, I received a comment from a reader, Jemi, asking how to wear a recent purchase. She just bought a cream motorcycle jacket, but has no idea how to pair it. She also purchased a gray headband, but isn’t sure if it’s appropriate to wear with a short haircut.

Pink Rock Candy, What to wear with a cream motorcycle jacket

First of all, I’m completely jealous of her cream moto jacket, I’m still on the hunt for a cute leather moto jacket, preferably in brown, but the thought of cream is starting to sound really good to me. If I were the proud owner of such a cute find, I’d would basically wear it with anything, making sure not to go over-the-top biker chick because that isn’t my style.

Here are two different pairings for such a fantastic type of jacket: 1) For a casual day look you could wear it with a basic gray pair of skinny/bootcut jeans and a jewel tone embellished tank to off-set the light jacket. Try a royal purple or dark teal color. 2) For a bit more drama, you could wear a flirty, night-on-the-town dress and sky-high heels. The juxtaposition of a tougher looking motorcycle jacket with an über-girlie dress is just so perfect.

As for the gray headband, I think anyone can wear a headband even if they’re bald. As with most clothing items, if you believe you look good, then you do look good, no one will say anything.

p.s. Cream and gray are neutrals so you can pretty much go wild with color if you want!
