Awesome PRC Reader: Carrie

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Cool Readers,Rock Your Style | Monday, 23 June 2008
Pink Rock Candy, cool prc reader, Carrie, handmade 40s dress

Its obvious to anyone who checks in on PRC every now and then, but I just have to put it out there. The PRC readers (that’s you!) are some of the coolest people ever! Many of them write there own rad blogs that I read pretty much on a daily basis, others own awesome clothing stores (online or not), and then there are the ones who are just fabulous in their own right because they love everything about fashion and sometimes even take the designing into their own hands. Carrie, a fab PRC reader, falls into the latter.

Right before Memorial Day I wrote about the two dresses I want to buy— I never ended up purchasing either— and, I asked you what your plans were for the long weekend. Carrie commented saying she was going to make this really chic 40s style dress. I always get really envious of people who can make their own clothes, and I asked her to send me pictures when she was done.

Its been a little while since then, and Carrie made the dress and sent me pictures. She looks fabulous in her creation, which looks like it’s made really well and with the cutest fabric. Its very fun a playful, but has that air of chicness all the clothing of the 40s had. I also love the vintage belt she paired with the dress— Forever 21, please lurk my blog and knock this belt off because I want one!

I’m starting to think Carrie’s closet is full of lots of cool one-of-a-kind pieces because she likes to take the designing into her own hands. Her next projects include linen pants for summer (linen and I are enemies), a rouched silk dress, and a bamboo fabric off-the-shoulder dress— I’m really excited to see that one. I love the idea of bamboo fabric clothes!

If any of you have cool design projects, fashion related info, new blogs you like or have created, or just want to say hi, leave it in a comment or email me at pinkrockfashion@gmail.com.

Her Style: I think my style is very L.A…i’m inspired by music and art, and i like mixing different elements to create something new. I love high fashion but i also find a lot of my clothes at vintage and thrift shops.

Here i paired a 60s-style tie-dye top and long necklace with a very-50s leopard print a-line skirt.

We have our second Pink Rock Style Icon. She’s a world traveler, is totally crafty, and is such a fashionista! I give to you…

Her Style:I’m wearing a pink H&M tank top with a purple pouf balloon skirt from Xanaka (high street chain in France). I added some style to my basic top by wearing a long charm necklace I made out of an Eiffel Tower keychain (bought it when I was studying in France) and an old flower charm (from my mom’s teenage days). Not seen in the picture are my purple snakeskin ballet flats by Sapato Manila (a local Philippine store). I think I wore this outfit to a family dinner.

I love this outfit because it epitomizes my style of glamorized basic. It’s the perfect mix of casual and chic. I like to wear trendy, fashionable pieces but I try to balance it with classic, everyday basics. I believe that amongst all the chic clothes in a girl’s closet, there should always be perfectly fitted tees and tanks.

A while ago I wanted to start something I called Rock Your Style. I wanted to show the world your rad style. I know it may have taken a while to get our first style icon, but it was well worth the wait. So without further ado, our very first, totally swank Pink Rock Style Icon is…

Her Style: Here is one of my recent stylediary.net photos of one of my favorite summer outfits. I love the colored denim trend this season! Colored denim can be worn so many ways, and I think the bold colors are great for summer. This outfit reflects my casual trendy style and is something I’d wear for lunch or shopping with friends on a sunny day.

The gray cotton babydoll top is from H&M, the yellow skinny jeans are from Forever 21, and the ice cream cone necklace is from Oasis in London. I bought the white T-strap wedges from a shoe store at Topanga Plaza that I can’t remember. One of my style tips is that you don’t always have to spend lots of cash to get a great outfit! For going out, I would add a silver or blue handbag and maybe a chunky plastic ring to complete the outfit.

I recently returned from a trip to London, where the bright street styles and store window displays inspired me to be bolder with my wardrobe choices. London is a must-see city if you’re into fashion, as the shopping is endless and the street styles are creative.
