I hate to be a fangirl, but right now, I have to be a total 30 Seconds to Mars fangirl— question my musical taste if you must. The music video/”short film” for their new song “Kings and Queens” premiered on MySpace Music today, and like all their grandiose videos this one is awesome and fun to watch, not to mention I’ve and the song stuck in my head since it came out.

There’s something magical about a night bike ride, especially when it involves light up spokes, a guy on a giant bike, about 100 people in costumes, and, umm, Jared Leto (I didn’t say it! I didn’t say it! It’s about the music, I promise!).

Anyway, watch the video, love the song, and get This Is War when it comes out on December 8th.

I’ve been so consumed with fashion related stuff, I’ve sort of ignored my second love, music. I can read and play it to some extent, but I love listening to the way other people arrange the same notes and turn them into something amazing.

On my drive to and from school, I try to listen to the radio, my favorite newish songs are “Wheels” by Foo Fighters, “The Fixer” by Pearl Jam, “Relator” by Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson, and “Kings and Queens” by 30 Seconds to Mars. Though I hear these songs often, today was the first day I realized there might be music videos to go along with some of the songs, and I was right!

My favorite video is the one for “Wheels”, not because they spent a billion dollars on it, but because I love seeing Dave Grohl and the gang just jam. So listen, watch, love:

Ok, that first statement may be slightly degrading to Street Sweeper Social Club, because not only is their <del>rap & roll</del> <del>rockhop</del> rap rock, hater version of “99 problems”, called “100 Little Curses”, actually perfectly snide, interesting, and able to me giggle a bit, but the toe-tapping, get-stuck-in-your-head strum of the guitar is quite reminiscent of another little band I like to call Rage Against the Machine. I wonder why.

Oh, I remember, because Mr. Tom Morello, the man behind the riffage, is also the guitarist in Rage.

Let’s add up SSSC’s rock cred, for those who care about that stuff. Not only is the guitarist from one of the most influential rap rock, and rock, bands from the 90s, but they get a little extra rock cred for joining Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction on the NINJA Tour, which I wasn’t able to go to, such a bummer, but I digress. Also, their single’s pretty ninja, no pun intended, and when I get down on the fact that some girls get to walk around in $1000 shoes while I have to budget and try to keep my shoe purchases at $100 or under, I can listen to this song, head bang a bit, and get psyched about emcee, Boots Riley’s, major chops, of the mutton persuasion.

p.s. Their self-titled debut album, Street Sweeper Social Club, is out now. If you like what you hear, make sure to support them.

I first heard “Cotopaxi,” the newest single from The Mars Volta a couple weeks ago during one of my rare visits to radioland, and couldn’t help but love it. I’d heard other songs from The Mars Volta before and liked them, but never really, “got into” the band.

“Cotopaxi” has just come at the right time to make me really want to listen to the band and even buy their upcoming album Octahedron on June 22. The song is everything current pop music isn’t— not that there’s anything technically wrong with pop music now-a-days. Listening to this song just takes me back to a day when rock was in-your-face and biting, musicians didn’t wear eyeliner (guyliner?) or marquee style sunglasses, and I was yet to be born.

Don’t ask me what the song is about, all I know is when I close my eyes and listen to this song, every inch of my body wants to smile— though that isn’t technically possible, at least until Tyra tells the next America’s Next Top Model contestants to “smile with their bodies”…

Nevermind, just watch the video, or better yet, close your eyes and take a listen. The video doesn’t make sense anyway.

A video for Manchester Orchestra’s new song, “The Only One” debuted today on AbsolutePunk.net. This is one video out of 11 created by the Emmy Award winning directing team of Clay Lipsky and Jason Bognacki of Destroy Rock Music Inc. to promote the bands upcoming album Mean Everything to Nothing (release date April 21st). There is a video created for each song on the upcoming album, and each video will premiere on a different website.

Lipsky describes their vision as being “a cinematic collage of decaying film and lost memories intertwined with a loose narrative about a young woman on a surreal journey to find what she is missing.” That is slightly beyond my lay, film viewer head, but I still think the video is chase scene video parallels the urgency in the song well, and I can definitely relate to the feeling of trying to escape a psychiatric institute; however I in my case the psych institute is more metaphorical than literal.

The Manchester Orchestra guys worked with Lipsky and Bognacky for the “I Can Barely Breathe” video from their first album I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child and the directors were excited to undertake such a large project for the band. “When ‘I Can Barely Breathe’ was well received, it helped create an open creative dialogue about our ideas and capabilities. When approached with the opportunity to interpret the entire album, we jumped at the chance,” said Destroy Rock Music.

p.s. Did I mention this song is just as fantastic as “I’ve Got Friends.” I’m so excited about this album!

I’ve been up since 5:15 AM, I have three finals today and will be on campus until 8 PM. I’m completely exhausted, and have just found out silly Billy Corgan is trying to make a statement again by informing the world that Smashing Pumpkins are no longer going to put out full albums only singles because “they drag over the two singles, and skip over the rest [of the cd].”

Oh, the humanity Corgan, maybe people would listen to full albums if every song was as good as the singles. Don’t get my parents started about how “every song was great on vinyls because you couldn’t just skip over a song. You had to listen to it all, so artists really cared.”

I also found out that Gareth Pugh is doing a menswear line to be shown in January. Now guys will know the pleasure of dressing like aliens and horror creatures. I love you Pugh!

Last but not leats, I have had the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus song, “You Better Pray”, stuck in my head for at lesat 2 weeks, making me over-eager to see the guys tossing their well-coiffed heads all over my computer screen in the video:

I’m feeling infinitely busy lately. I have to so many big end-of-semester projects on top of getting into really bad car accidents— I’m ok— and fixing up PRC— did you notice? The only time I really seem to have to myself is when I’m driving and even sometimes that doesn’t end up how I wanted.

So, before I get to the point, here’s the deal with the new website layout. I’ve decided to make the homepage just a landing pad, so I won’t have to double post anymore. I also combined the entertainment and fashion blogs onto this website because I didn’t post on the entertainment blog as often as I thought I would.

Now, everything PRC can be read hear, and if I ever decide to expand the PRC brand(?) I’ll be sure to tell you.

Now back to my car accident. I think I totaled my car because the road was slick due to rain. We have a rental car and that car has built in Sirius Satellite radio, a luxury I’ve missed since my dad took his Sirius radio back. So while I was listening to my favorite station, Alt Nation 21, I heard two songs I’m practically in love with.

The first song is “Spiralling” by Keane. The beat is really refreshing during these dreary winter days, and that “OH!” is so old school, I can’t help but be stoked.

The other song is “You Don’t Know Me” by Ben Folds featuring Regina Spektor. I just like the lyrical volley between Ben and Regina. It’s so fun!

I’m not really overly stoked about either video, but I love the songs!

What do you think of the changes I made to PRC? Should I go back to the old website? What other things would you like to see?

“Oh My God!” Yup, it was one of those moments. Actually, it was almost a giant billboard OMFG-worthy moment. As I’m walking back to my job after lunch, trying hard to ignore the catcalls, I hear a familiar tune. Its the type of song that makes you trip over yourself while trying to keep from bouncing around like a crazy person, but luckily I raced back to my desk without incident and promptly IMed my sister to inform her that she’d “never guess what song I’d just heard.” I didn’t even give her time to guess the song and promptly followed my first statement with, “Jordan Knight’s ‘Give It To You’!”

WHAT? Were you expecting something else?

When I was younger and this song was actually new, that’s 1999 for those not in the know, it was my favorite song ever. What isn’t there to love? Jordan Knight was cute-ish, the beat was and still is totally legit, and the dance moves, oh the dance moves. Why don’t they make music videos like that anymore? I mean, when was the last time you saw a music video where every word/beat had a dance move to go along with it?

Speaking of words, when I first fell in love with this song, I made it my mission to learn all the lyrics so I could sing along with Mr. Knight while watching the video on MTV back when TRL was still cool, and live for that matter. Boy, was I naive! After giving the song a good listen, or eight, I realized this is much filthier than I remembered or ever recognized considering I was just a wee sprout when this song first came out. I mean, I definitely had no idea what Jordan meant when he sang, “Anything goes when I give it to you/Without a doubt I’ll turn you out” or “Anyone can make you sweat/ But I can keep you wet”, but after hearing the song now, my jaw dropped.

Aside from the newly realized over-sexed lyrics, I still love this song as much as I did when I first heard it. Jordan may be trying to come back once again with his New Kids On The Block bandmates, but he will forever be the faux-wholesome, cable knit sweater wearing guy with the craziest, impregnate-you-through-the-screen, pelvic thrust I’ve ever witnessed (around 3:00).

Its late, and I still have to go download this song off iTunes so I can listen to it on repeat tomorrow. Good Knight…ahem, Night Lovlies!

Usually the song of the summer is by some break-out artist, and they’re about writing sins not tragedies or being in da club or something along those lines, but this summer, my favorite song isn’t by a break-out artist per se, and it isn’t even part of anyone’s album, at least I don’t think. I’m talking about the song, “My Drive Thru” which is by Santagold, Julian Casablancas, and N.E.R.D. and was created for Converse’s summer campaign. Its fun, its about summer, and there’s finally a music video!

I’ve been lusting over this song for a little less than a month now. The beat is yet another infectious thing of genius created by Pharrell, and though there isn’t any true chorus the refrain at the end of ‘but we all wanna dance’ mimicks my life to a T. Though I have losts of important, not so fun, work related things to do, in the end I just want to dance! I know I always say songs make me want to dance, but this one doesn’t just make me want to dance it makes me actually dance no matter where I am when I hear it— on the subway, in my car, at a party, anywhere.

When I first envisioned the music video that should go with this song, I saw something with lots of bright, 80s style colors, some crazy low riders, and some sort of car show/block party, but the video is completely different than anything I could have dreamed up. Now that I’ve seen it, though, I don’t think it could have been done any other way. Not only does it fit with the Converse campaign, but the flipbook feel is a lot of fun to watch, even though there is a lack of color.

On a side note, after watching this video I’ve come to two conclusions. I really need a marching band jacket— I know I’ve said it a lot, but this time I mean it— and, Julian Casablancas is really cute in a slightly dorky, break your heart, rock star sort of way. I know that isn’t news to many, especially the diehard fans of The Strokes, but I just had a light bulb moment so leave me be!

What song has been the anthem to your summer of 2008?

Ever since I heard the words “I’m not saying it’s your fault, but I know you could have done more,” I’ve been in love with The Kooks. Inside In/Inside Out was fantastic, and their new album Konk is just as great, if not better. The first single from Konk, “Always Where I Need To Be,” is one of those perfect songs that you love to get stuck in your head, but the practice-space/roof top video left something to be imagined. Luckily, they’ve redeemed themselves on the music video front with their new video for “Shine On.”

Not only is the song a real toe-tapper, but the set and fashion in this vid is inspired— do you remember when people used to say that? The blue floral wallpaper could have been ripped from the walls of Chloe Sevigny’s head, and I love the shabby chic-ness of the girls water-logged apartment.

Though the set was wonderful, and I can’t wait to hear the song on the radio (indicating it’s arrival to the world), my favorite part of the entire video is the girl’s head gear. Not only does she get to sport this giant, whimsical flower and feather hair clip in her super-cute pixie-cut hair. I’ve watched the video at least four times and every time I see the floral clip I want it more and more, but she wears this awesome blue, at least I think its blue, chapeau, which again is adorned with the obligatory feather. It reminds me of Sarah Jessica Parker’s hat at the London premier of Sex and the City; The Movie which comes out tomorrow on a side note!

Now that The Kooks are going to have girls around the world dressing up like flappers, what should they do next? Well, I think they should make a video for “Do You Wanna” where everyone is dressed in 80s disco attire, and ask me to be in it!

I doubt I could fully express my love for Flight of the Conchords, but I’m going to try, and then you’re going to watch their new video for “Ladies of the World”. Now, where do I begin? Should I start with their names? Bret Mckenzie and Jermaine Clement, which they happen to say really amusingly. How about the fact that they have an awesome show on HBO, called Flight of the Conchords. If you haven’t seen it your missing out. I was supposed to currently be watching new episodes, but because of some indignant writers the new shows were pushed to the fall— I’m totally making a sad face right now.

Or, I could just start with the fact that both Bret and Jermaine are real hotties in their own way, and by “own way”, I mean not stereotypically, and they are some of the only people who can actually get away with roller skates and 70s style tracksuits. Oh, and did I mention Jermaine’s sexy pornstache? It is bound to make any girl swoon.

The real reason Flight of the Conchords are so awesome is because they can not only be hilarious through song, but their songs are completely truthful making them even more zany. Whether they’re spoofing rappers in “Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros” and “Mutha’uckas” or making sexy seventies seduction style music in “Ladies of the World,” you’ll be laughing your ass off even when it’s completely inappropriate to be snickering, so you’ll make crazy faces while trying to stifle laughter because you’re in a public place like your school’s computer lab…ahem.

The more I think about how funny they are, the more I want to laugh, and people are starting to stare, so just watch the video for yourself— and mind the cute New Zealand accents and the bad ass foot work. One day, I’ll own at rollerskating like them!

So, I’ll admit it, Metro Station makes me a little fangirl-ish. I’m not exactly sure why, but I know for sure this time it has nothing to do with the subjective attractiveness on the band members. It may actually have something to do with every song making me want to dance around, shaking my hips sometimes while swinging my head, arms, legs, and what ever else I can swing without falling on my ass. When I realized vocalists, Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso were siblings of some of the Hannah Montana actors, I really wanted to denounce Metro Station because of my loathing of that show, but then one of their songs plays on my i-Pod and I’m right back where I started, making a fool of myself.

“Where is this going?” you ask.

Well, I also happen to have a big thing for their music videos in which there always seem to be a crazy party going on. They constantly make me feel as if I’m not the only one who has a bit of a Metro Station induced flailing problem, except for their newest video for “Shake It,” because instead of casting the usual party monsters as extras, they got real live dance crews. Yup, there are real dancers crumping, breaking, and pirouetting about the screen giving me a slight inferiority complex.

Before you click the play button on the video, I suggest you stand as far away from any furniture or high heels strewn around your room because I can’t be liable for any injury cause by listening to the song. Now, excuse me while I go ice my elbow.
