FNO Public Fashion Show

Pink Rock Candy, Fashions Night Out Fall 2010 Fashion Show

After the fashion week madness, I was left questioning whether livestreaming almost every fashion show was the appropriate route for the fashion industry to take. It seems, Vogue and the CFDA were listening, or at least I feel as if they were— insert fashion remake of the new HP commercials.

As part of Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) this fall, Vogue and SPEC Entertainment will be hosting the largest public fashion show in the history of New York Fashion Week.

On September 7, 2010, Lincoln Center will be hosting approximately 1,500 fashion lovers lucky enough to get their hands on tickets before they sell out. These people will watch about 200 models walk the runway in Vogue-worthy fall trends.

Part of the ticket sale proceeds will go to New York City AIDS Fund.

Since the CFDA and Vogue are in the mood to make groundbreaking changes to the fashion industry— public fashion shows and a fall show during spring/summer fashion week— can we please have a little powwow about the treatment and compensation of interns?

The topic has been on everyone’s mind lately, and if you two major powerhouses say, “jump,” the rest of the industry will ask, “how high?” How about let’s start with compensation for commuting or something, that’s easy, right? Thanks!

p.s. Those stores planning on taking part in the FNO festivities on September 10, can register now. The deadline is June 15, 2010.

Missing Zac

Pink Rock Candy, Zac Posen for Target Launch Party, Style.com

I was invited to the Zac Posen for Target party on Thursday, but I didn’t go.

I know, crazy right? I had a pretty damn good reason to not attend, and the normal, non-OMGZacPosenIsTheGayLoveOfMyLife part of me is glad I chose to skip.

However, since I did pass on a once in a lifetime event, that means I was left flipping through the photos on Style.com and feeling the slightest pang of stupidity in my stomach. Was the party absolutely amazing? Would I have gotten to meet Zac? Will I look as good in that leopard stripe dress as Sessilee Lopez?

To these questions, I know only time will tell. There will be more events, one day I will work for Zac Posen, and my boobs are bigger than Sessilee’s — the dress is bound to look different.

I’m beyond excited for Zac Posen’s Target collection to be released on April 25, so I can scoop up some of the greatness. I have a sneaking suspicion this will be the first GO International collection I actually purchase a piece from, sorry to all the other masters who have paired with Target in the past.

People Watching at Fashion Events

People watching is a favorite pass time of many. They flock to parks, cafés and beaches to quietly observe their specimens, but there is no people watching location like a fashion event. At any one event in the fashion industry, there are the overzealous newcomers, the jaded veterans, the awkward financial guys who are only there for the models, and the crashers.

Last night, I went to an art show and two separate fashion events— one was a presentation for Levi’s Fall 2010 collection and the other a preview of the Alice by Temperley line— and all the usual suspects were there.

The art show was for Ritchard Rodriguez. His art was interesting, but I rarely “get” modern painters. I was also informed I have a doppelganger who frequents the gallery and other art events— who knew!

At the Levi Fall 2010 preview, I listened to the melodic stylings of One Eskimo. I’ve yet to pass judgment on the band, so I won’t get into their music. I met quite a few fun people some really awkward ones. I stared awkwardly at the middle age guys in pinstripe suits while the hipsters waltzed around in ripped denim and slouchy knits, and then my attention was quickly switched to people on the opposite side of the spectrum that looked as if they had just come off the street to see what the party was about. A male model even winked at me, but I tend to avoid them at all cost— they’re either gay, intellectually challenged or both.

I also tragically realized, I’m not cool enough for Levi anymore. I can’t remember the last time I actually bought a pair of Levi jeans, but the collection is very edgy and Erin Wasson-ish. Never, will I be Erin Wasson. So, I’ll stick to the Three Fs— fun, flirty and feminine.

The last stop of the night was the Alice preview. It made me realize how much I adore the designs of Alice Temperley in both the Temperley London collection and the Alice by Temperley collection. I couldn’t take pictures, but the animal prints were tie-dyed just enough to make me want to wear tiger stripes every day, and the navy military coat dubbed the Audrey Coat had my name written all over it— when’s my birthday again?

I’m not sure where I fall on the fashion event spectrum, but I had fun nonetheless.

More pictures after the jump.

Twinkling All Day and Night

Chelsea Rae Simmons | Events,Fashion,My Style | Friday, 11 December 2009

Yesterday, I woke up at 4:30AM so I could be at Cadillac’s Castle in the East Village by 7AM to help turn a hip vintage/consignment store into a twinkling wonderland for for Twinkle by Wenlan‘s first ever pop-up shop to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the brand.

Not only did I wake up with the birds to help set up, but played pop-up shop sales assistant from noon until six o’clock in the evening when we set up for the Twinkle Pop-Up Shop Opening Party. Champagne glasses when washed in a sink so small it must have fallen down the rabbit’s hole, bottles of bubbly were popped over and over and over again, celebs were sighted, and I got to wear one of my favorite Twinkle Holiday ’09 pieces, the ‘Luminous Vision’ dress. It seems, Gossip Girl-er Yin Chang loved the dress as well because she wore it last night too— I think I filled the dress out better, if I do say so myself!

Despite my 13-hour day, I had the best time throughout it all, and I can’t wait for tomorrow when I get to head back to Cadillac’s Twinkle’s Castle and play shop girl again from noon to 4PM.

If you’re in NYC stop by, shop, and say hi!

Cadillac’s Castle – 333 East 9th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenues). Take the L train to 1st Avenue.

Gap Celebrates 40 Years with Denim Pop-Up Shop

Fashion Week is coming up quicker than I thought, and I’m already feeling the rush of anticipation. As most of you know, on September 10th, 2009, Vogue will be staging their own worldwide economic intervention called Fashion’s Night Out, but also starting September 10th, GAP will open their 1969 3-floor denim concept store on Kingly Court in London to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

Gap’s 1969 concept store will sell 69 pairs of each iconic denim style, specially produced for the pop-up shop, including designs by Pierre Hardy, Albertus Swanepoel, and Pharrell Williams’ new Bionic Gap Collection— initially produced in association with Gap Japan and Patrick Robinson.

On the opening day only, London shoppers can buy a limited edition pair of Gap (PRODUCT)REDTM rinsed jeans in whatever Gap fit you absolutely love for only £19.69. Half of those profits will go toward the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.

If that’s not enough, throughout the 19 days the pop-up shop will be open, they will have in-store performances by many breakthrough artists including a Pink Rock Candy fave, Temposhark, and photographer and street style blogger, Garance Doré will curate an exhibition of her street style photos and illustrations.

As much as I love New York City, I wish I could pick it up and drop it smack dab in the middle of the English Channel so I could be part of amazing events in London and Paris, like the Gap 1969 concept store.

Gap 1969 Denim Concept Store:
September 10th, 2009 – October 5th, 2009
G7 / G8 Kingly Court, Carnaby, London, W1
