The other day, I was making an impromptu Taco Bell run with a friend of mine, and he was commenting on how he has noticed a lot of guys wearing skinny jeans, of late. He then asked what I thought of guys in skinny jeans. After a slight pause, and a ponderous “Ummmm,” I gave the most uninspired of uninspiring answers, “I don’t mind it.”

That was the truth! I don’t mind guys wearing skinny jeans. Being a fan of emo bands, whose members have been following the go-skinny-or-go-home rule for as long as I’ve liked them, has most likely jaded my impression of the look. I could walk past a guy wearing pants so tight my parents and grandparents would undoubtedly question his sexuality, but I wouldn’t give it a second glance.

Apparently the people at Bluefly’s Flypaper blog have been noticing this trend too, because they’ve had not one but two posts about male skinnies in the past 5 months, the latest of which is a video of Fashion PR’s HBIC, Kelly Cutrone, running around NYC asking random hotties about their snug bottoms.

After watching the video, I may still be unfazed by the onslaught of men wearing tight jeans, but I now know where all the hot guys are hiding in NYC!

Before you cast your vote on the guys wearing skinny jeans trend, here’s some food for thought, thanks to the Flypaper blog:

“1. Skinny jeans are a great way [for guys] to show off spanking new sneakers — especially hightops.
2. Many guys can’t wear their skinnies without a fedora. It seems they just feel naked without one on. To a lesser extent, they must have on a vest or kerchief too.
3. They must be worn with a belt— unless you mean to let everyone know your thong matches your sneaker’s fat laces.
4. No matter how skinny they are on a dude, they will still look like boyfriend jeans on a girl.”

I finally made it to Topshop in NYC, yesterday. I decided I needed to make a pilgrimage to 478 Broadway and convinced my little brother to drink the Kool-Aid with me.

It was just as I expected, amazing! Four floors of  major fashion lusts.

I ended up buying a basic tunic with pockets in bone— cream is my new gray for the summer— and a giant ring that my brother calls my ‘war ring’, only to be used in case I need to fracture someone’s skull. I also bought him a white collared shirt for putting up with being dragged around the city.

Oh, the humanity Corgan, maybe people would listen to full albums if every song was as good as the singles. Don’t get my parents started about how “every song was great on vinyls because you couldn’t just skip over a song. You had to listen to it all, so artists really cared.”

I also found out that Gareth Pugh is doing a menswear line to be shown in January. Now guys will know the pleasure of dressing like aliens and horror creatures. I love you Pugh!

Last but not leats, I have had the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus song, “You Better Pray”, stuck in my head for at lesat 2 weeks, making me over-eager to see the guys tossing their well-coiffed heads all over my computer screen in the video:

Everyone, including myself has been counting the seconds until they can buy Comme des Garcons at H&M. The past week has been full of small, blurry, and/or pixelated ‘sneak peeks’, but as per usual, the cool cats at Fashionista.com provide us with the first full sneak peek. After first being distracted by the annoying footwear the female model is wearing, and then swooning over the the cropped jacket and polka dots, I scrolled down even more and realized I love the men’s pieces better than the women’s.

When evaluating runway collections both ready-to-wear and couture, I have a tendency to appreciate the impractical collections more than those with and abundance of basics. However, when it comes to clothes I actually intend on purchasing, I do a appreciate a bit of practicality, and over-sized shorts, oddly cut jackets, and drop-crotch pants aren’t really what I call practical. The goth doll-inspired dress is gorgeous and might be perfect for Halloween, but there are only a few people I can think of that might actually wear it on a daily basis and considering those people, I wouldn’t say that is a good thing.

On the other hand, the male model looks like he’s just come from raving in a torrential rain storm, but I can actually imagine myself and others wearing most of those pieces. I’m obviously really feeling cardigans of late and imagine how cute would a t-shirt with giant polka dots be, but my favorite piece from the entire collection is the plaid(?) suit jacket with the single, white diagonal stitch. I think its safe to say, we all have realized the ingenious of a girl in a slightly over-sized suit jacket, and this one has the perfect balance of practicality and eccentricity.

The interweb is chock full of pictures featuring, the perfectly coiffed uber-stylish guys fashion fairy tales are made of. Some of them may be businessmen in the perfectly tailored Tom Ford suit, and others are those ultra-hip indie hotties who can make the neon, acid washed skinny jeans look good (*cough* Gabe Saporta *cough*). Unfortunately, its a rarity to actually meet one of these amazingly dressed men, but as a big sister I know its my job to help my younger brother find his inner fashion whore.

My little brother’s been my little pet project for the last few months. I like to take him shopping, and then make him wear things he would never think of wearing. Sometimes he puts on the clothes I picked, and he looks at me like I’m crazy— but, most of the time he’s surprised by the things that actually look awesome on him. He isn’t quite Kanye or Pharrell, but maybe one day he’ll be that oddly cool guy found in NYC by The Sartorialist.

Yesterday, we went to the mall, and while in Charlotte Russe (why aren’t there any good clothes at that store), he saw some fakey shutter shades. We both thought they were beyond hilarious and since they were only $5 with the purchase of another pair, I decided to buy them for him and some over-sized wayfarers for me. Jokingly, he decided to wear his new shades as we walked around the mall, and almost everyone looked at him like he was crazy. As the older sister, I diligently informed him that the whole point of crazy trends is to make people notice you, so just have fun with it!

When we got home, he wanted facebook pictures so we had a sibling photoshoot in our backyard. It was really hot, and I almost stepped in poison ivy, but overall, it was so much fun!

What are your favorite styles for guys, and do you help guide your younger siblings on the path of stylishness?

I don’t usually talk about men’s fashion on PRC, but today I have to. Why? Because since I heard Josh Hartnett was going to be in the new Emporio Armani ‘Diamonds for Men’ fragrance ad, I’ve been stoked— stoked is actually an understatement. However, now that I’ve seen the ad, thanks to Fashionista.com, I’m sort of underwhelmed (said in my best Michael Kors impression).

I’m not disappointed because Josh Hartnett is in the ad. I think he’s gorgeous, at least in my eyes. He has this slightly annoying, yet still endearing hipster grizzly-mountain-man thing going on all the time. His facial hair gets a bit patchy and his eyebrows are unkept, but I learned to deal with that years ago— I’ll even go as far as saying I appreciate the quirky wildness of it all. The culmination of those things, and much more, make him a lovable, awkward mess, but in the Armani ads, he’s none of that.

Though considering the queen of bling, Beyonce, was (is?) the face of Armani’s ‘Diamonds for Women’ fragrance, I understand why they had to doll Josh up a bit, but is this too much?

I know I can’t expect him to be rocking a ratty hat and geek-chic glasses in this ad, but I feel like he’s too clean cut for his own good.

This brings me to my question: What are the the trends/styles you find most attractive on guys? Do you like them Thom Browne or Tom Ford, Soulja Boi or Fall Out Boy, or something totally different?

p.s. The girl on the right keeps distracting me with her “OH EM GEE!” face!
