I Don’t Get It, Dries

Pink Rock Candy, Dries Van Noten S/S 2010 collection, one-arm jackets

The Spring/Summer 2010 Dries Van Noten collection was inspiring, but there is one thing I don’t understand.

The way Dries always seems to turn printed fabrics with headache-inducing potential into beyond chic pieces of clothing without loosing one bit of “wow” factor, makes me adore him. Like a good student of fashion, if I don’t know/understand something I have to ask the tough questions.

Therefore, Dries, though I am practically in love with this collection, what is up with the one-armed blazer look?

From the apparent arm straps, I am assuming there is actually another half to the look. Why send models down the runway looking like I do while struggling to juggle putting on my jacket, carry my over-stuffed bag, and text friends simultaneously?

In no way does this a-symmetry change my feelings for the collection. I’m just confused, and I hate being confused.

Any thoughts on the half-jacket?

Simply Summer Vol. 3

Pink Rock Candy, Simply Summer, Rani Jones
1. Dress by Rani Jones, $369  •  2. Cloche by Urban Outfitters, $28  •  3. Shirt by Forever 21,
$23  • 4. Shoes by Zinc, $73

Summer hasn’t been much of a Summer considering the dreary days, but still, I hold out hope for a 90 degree day without the threat of thunderstorms the next.

When the sun finally comes out from its hiding place, I’ll need a cute cloche to shade absolutely nothing from the sun’s beaming rays— as long as it looks cute, who needs shade?

A slightly sexy lace cut-out tee would not only go perfectly paired with shorts while walking around the city or hanging at a park, but if bought in a slightly larger size, it would be a casual swimsuit cover-up for late nights spent on the local beaches.

Last but not least, Summer always seems to bring the party animal out in everyone, and why not own any party in a fabulous Rani Jones colorblock tube dress, to be pair, or not, with oddly cute, stack-heel mary-janes.

Simply Summer Vol. 2

Pink Rock Candy, Banana Repulic ruffle dress, Report Tocai sandals, Mary Katrantzou dress
From left to Right: Dress by Banana Republic, $89; Sandals by Report Footwear, $215; Dress by Mary Katrantzou

I don’t normally shop at Banana Republic, but this pink pleated dress is one that can not be passed up especially at a price of only $89.

In other news, my hunt for the perfect nude shoe may be ended because of these Report ‘Tocai’ sandals. They’re sexy, but not too sexy because of the hardware. If only they weren’t $215. Do you have any fairly inexpensive nude shoe suggestions?

I hadn’t heard of Mary Katrantzou, until I read a post about her on the DuJour magazine blog. I like that she took the over-sized jewelry trend and tied it into the fabric print. The sheer swath of fabric at the bottom also helps sex things up a bit without looking too trashy because your nether regions are still covered with fabric.

Pink Rock Candy, Sass & Bide, Mischa Barton for Stacy Lapidus
From left to right: Tunic by Sass & Bide, $320; Headbands by Mischa Barton for Stacy Lapidus, $50-80

I know I haven’t been blogging so regularly for the past couple of weeks, but with school winding down, I’m hoping that will change vastly. Though I haven’t been visibly active, I have totally been lurking around the interweb, scouting out the best Summer pieces for a section I’d like to call Simply Summer.

In each Simply Summer post I’ll show you guys a few pieces that are quintessentially Summer-y. The first of these, happens to be a sleeveless Sass & Bide tunic I’ve been lusting over since I dreamed I wore it to Coachella (which I never went to). The cutouts on the top of the chest are quite sexy, but pairing them with an empire waist gives off a bit of a Lolita vibe. The look is so Sass & Bide, I almost kick myself for even being so obvious in my interpretation.

The other items I really, really want for summer is a headband designed by Mischa Barton for Stacy Lapidus. Usually I think Mischa looks awkward and sort of coked-out, but the fact of the matter is, she pulls off the flower child look as well, if not better than Zoë Kravitz who totally gets it honestly. Though, as of late, I’ve veered away from the wood nymph look, something about summer always rustles up the Native American spirit in me, and makes me want to wear feathers, flowers or both, all the time.
