New Year, New Obsession

Pink Rock Candy, Cocktail Rings

It seems, starting a new year and new internship has left me nothing less than neglectful to PRC. I have to get better at balancing new activities with old activities. It’s like this song I learned in grade school, “make new friends, but keep the old…” I’ve always struggled with that concept, when I move I cut pretty much all ties, unfortunately or fortunately depending on the ties.

I also have an odd severing tendency when it comes to jewelry. For some odd reason, I can’t bring myself to obsess over more than one type of jewelry at a time. During my last years of high school, I love large chandelier earrings. Then, after making the move from the Mid-West to the East Coast, I canned the earring and draped myself in necklaces, but now I’m starting to lust after over-sized rings for the new year.

Perhaps that is my unconscious way of self-censoring. I’ve never liked delicate jewelry, only the big and bold— an assume repercussion of growing up in the “super-size it” glory days— and, without some sort of censoring mechanism I might end up looking like I was attacked by Claire’s.

When looking for original jewelry, Etsy seemed like the obvious place to head, and lucky I did because options were found and a new jewelry obsession was secured. For less than $20 each I could satiate my urge to either be extremely art nouveu (Glint) or sweet an girlie (Heatherly Designs) all while sporting a great cocktail ring.

Now the trick is to balance my long-time love of layered necklaces with my flavor of the week, cocktail rings. Tricky, tricky!

Gotta Get Some Mini-Knucks

Chelsea Rae | Accessories, Fashion, Rings | Wednesday, 10 December 2008

Pink Rock Candy, 31 Corn Lane, Daisy Mini-Knucks, double finger ring

Generally speaking, I don’t wear rings. I’m much too fidgety to safely wear something so small and easy to slide off. That being sad, I adore the ‘Daisy Mini-Knucks’ double knuckle ring from 31 Corn Lane.

Not only does the ring mix the tom boyish double knuckle ring with girlie jeweled flowers, but at only $10 I can play with the ring all I want without worrying I’ll lose an expensive piece of jewelry.

The Sperbers never cease to impress me. They’re seasonal handbag collections are always adorable and now they’re making me want to wear rings— devastating!

If you’re in the NY area and just can’t stand paying for shipping, you can visit the Sperber sisters at their booth at The Bust Craftacular on December 14 from 10 AM to 7:30 PM at the Metropolitan Pavillion.

Goodies For Lost Girls

Pink Rock Candy, 31 Corn Lane, hot air balloon bag, feather earring, strawberry ring

I know it’s been many, many moons, but I was abducted by Pinocchio look-a-likes and forced to be a real girl for a while. They made me plan ahead, go grocery shopping, and go to work. I escaped using pixie dust and happy thoughts, so now I’m back and jonesing for something super fun, and what’s more fun than fighting Captain Hook neon colors, plastic jewelry, and hot air balloons? I couldn’t think of anything either— that’s why I give you my favorites from one of the most funnest (yes!) companies I know, 31 Corn Lane!

Technically, the most fun any one person can have, or just the most fun I could have, would be at the top of a super high roller coaster, sitting in the front of the train, about to plunge to my adrenaline-charged potential doom. Since I’m nowhere near Cedar Point and the Millinium Force Roller Coaster, I’m going to hope someone decides to take me on a hot air balloon ride or just know of my love of heights and giant bags and buy me this beyond adorable ‘Woah Balloons! SuperShopper Bag’. Getting my hands on either one of the ‘Woah Balloons!’ bags (there’s a tote too!), would definitely make up for the fun I missed out on when my town carnival decided to shut down before they even opened it. Bummer!

I also really like the ‘Solid Big Bling Berry Ring’. Nothing screams summer fun like a juicy, fist-sized strawberries. I’m talking about the kind of strawberries that drip juice down your chin and stain your face, fingers, and new white shirt. For a cleaner version they can be set atop yummy crêpes or crème brûlée or just turned to plastic and place on your finger. This ring would make me reminisce sweetly about my favorite desserts at anytime of the day, and if I’m swiped by those darn marionettes again, I’ll have happy thoughts right on my finger.

Last but not least, my favorite of favorites is the ‘Pink Preppy-Punk Pocahontas Style Single Earring’. Feathers are undoubtedly my new obsession— sorry pirate-themed anything— but, who knew Pocahontas could be preppy and 80s punk at the same time. I don’t usually wear earrings, but technically this is just ONE earring, so it doesn’t really count.

I’ll be back tomorrow, but for now I’m going to hula hoop, play with Power Ranger action figures, and dominate at 4-Square!

What are the things you wish you could still do from when you were just a lil’ tyke?

Another Great Accessory Boutique

Chelsea Rae | Accessories, Handbags, Necklaces, Rings | Tuesday, 17 July 2007

Every now and then I get tipped off about great web boutiques selling the cutest things. One of the recent boutiques I found out about is called Max & Chloe. I’m sure you heard that name thrown around recently because I know I saw it at least once flashed across the Coutorture homepage. Max and Chloe is a super chic accessories driven webstore that can tout designer names like Kenneth Jay Lane, CC Skye, Rachel Leigh, and Alexis Hudson. They have also been featured in tons of mags, everything from ELLE to Star (yes, the sleazy and primarily unreliable tabloid magazine).

Putting all designer and press related bragging rights aside, Max & Chloe actually carries really cute accessories. Potentially my favorite item on the whole site is the Candace Ang ‘Long Cameo Necklace’. The lucite cameo and key is very A Little Princess, a.k.a. the best movie for any little girl, and the sole reason for my “I want to marry Prince Charming” complex (or was that Disney’s fault?). Other less psychosis inspiring, but equally grand pieces are the ‘Royal Teardrop Earrings’ by Kenneth Jay Lane which could be seen on the Christian Dior Fall 2007 runway (Christian Dior…sigh!), and the Pade Varra ‘Ruby and Emerald Flower Ring’ that brings back the fondest memories of family vacation in Hawaii. If you’re planning to procure any of the great items from Max & Chloe make sure you punch in MJ15 at checkout to get 15% off!

If you’re completely over shopping for new accessories (a rare occurrence, but it happens), Max & Chloe also stocks BE by becker.eshaya. BE is Kristen Becker and John Eshaya’s first exclusive fragrance and Max & Chloe has it. The fragrance is a blend of Italian mandarin, pink peony, lily of the valley and rose damascena with a hint of “sensual” musk and comes in a spray, pen and scented candle. If this sounds, or I guess smells, up your alley (how wrong that sounds), you can get $5 off any of the becker.eshaya items with the promo code BE5OFF.

Here are my Max & Chloe faves for your viewing pleasure:
