Weekly Coutorture Giveaway: Madewell Scarf

Chelsea Rae | Contests, Coutorture, Scarves | Wednesday, 12 December 2007

Pink Rock Candy, Madewell wool scarf, Coutorture Giveaway

You may have notice the contest widget we’ve had in our sidebar for a month or so. I put it up, but never really talked about it. Well, I’m going to explain. Every week the great people at Coutorture, give away a new item to one lucky reader, chosen from all of the fashion and beauty blogs in the network, but the catch is you have to enter. You just have to give your email address and you can choose if you’d like to be contacted in the future or not. It’s super easy! This week Coutorture is giving away a gorgeous Madewell scarf.

Madewell, is a new project from the J. Crew team, who recently opened a pop-up shop at 532 Broadway, in Soho, but will soon be the proud occupants of a permanent shop on the corner of Broome & Broadway. Though their newest store is in NYC, Madewell also has shops in Los Angeles, Dallas, Austin, Las Vegas, Natick, MA, and Short Hills, NJ. You can also visit the Madewell website to see their newest collection and a great denim guide.

The scarf is a beautiful maroon, washed-wool scarf valuing at $48, but you could get it for free. Scarfs are “so in” this season, with it being winter and all, and even if you live in a warmer state scarves looked great juxtaposed with a t-shirt. So, don’t forget to enter, because you never know, you could be America’s Next Top Model the proud owner of this radiant scarf!

Naked Ape, Not Just ‘Stuff’

Chelsea Rae | Dresses, Hoodies, Scarves, Shirts | Thursday, 29 November 2007
Naked Ape Clothing- dress, hoodie, t-shirt, scarf, hood-scarf, snood

Not a fan of bright color combos and crazy patterns, avert your eyes and make sure you never fall for the nu rave trend. I for one am oddly attracted to bright colors and things that are so wrong, they’re right. That is the basis of clothing brand Naked Ape. According to them, they are just a bunch of people who come together “for the love of making stuff and having fun together”, but just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I find their “stuff” to be so much more.

Very rarely do you feel a bond with a garment unless you had something to do with its creation, and even then its questionable. However, the shear wrongness (is that a word?) of the eclectic patterns on the clothing made me swoon in a way I hadn’t in quite a while. Their pieces are urban yet nu rave, comfortable yet chic.

My favorite pieces include:

  • The ‘Forynja Dress’, 265.0 € SOLDOUT- I rarely like dresses with hoods, but the loose fit of the dress works well with the drappy hood.
  • The ‘Ponies Hoodie’, 110.0 € - Its My Little Pony gone nu rave, what more is there to say?
  • The ‘Heartbreaker’ t-shirt, 40.0 € - Who can resist half-naked rockers in leopard pants? I know I can’t!
  • The ‘Ponies & Yetis Snood’, 55.0 € - It’s winter and we all need a good hood-scarf. Except my idea of a snood is something like a hair-net, who knew! Oh, and its MLP meets the ever illusive yeti, come on…

The only thing to bring me down from this fashion high was finding out Naked Ape is based in Iceland, and realizing the USD/EUR exchange rate is crazy (1€ is about $1.50 USD).
