There is a Doubting Thomas or ten in my life, who think I made a terrible mistake in studying Public Relations. “Who needs PR?” they say, “In this economy, Public Relations is usually low on a company’s list of necessary departments.”

Obviously, they’ve never heard of Alexander McQueen, who’s smart enough not to pay for advertising and in turn uses his shocking collections to “create a buzz,” something we PR professionals do quite well, mind you.

Oh, and Alex McQueen does have a PR team.

In an interview with AOL StyleList before a meet-and-greet at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, Giuseppe Zanotti talks McQueen’s 12-inch Armadillo shoes, the recession, and designing a capsule collection.

And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of 8 different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic casual corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room.
