Who Will be America’s Next Top Model?

Chelsea Rae | Entertainment | Wednesday, 29 August 2007

The new cycle of America’s Next Top Model premieres in three weeks and they have finally released a group picture of the new contestants. This year, it looks like American Apparel has styled the shoot.

Long live metallic bodysuits!

Tyra says this season of ANTM is all about the “future of fashion”, and apparently silver lamé is as futuristic as it comes.

All joking aside, if you take a better look at each girl, in the “Meet the Models” section, you will understand what Tyra means abut the future of fashion. In the industry, people are always searching for the new “IT” model, and usually these models are super unique. Irina Lazareanu and Lily Cole aren’t the typical beauty, but in their own way they are absolutely ravishing.

As always we should expect tons of drama, it is a reality show after all. There’s probably the crazy overly-outgoing girl that gets on everyone’s nerves, the girl that thinks she’s the shit, and the girl that thinks she’s trash but becomes one of the best contestants, but as always who’s actually going to be America’s Next Top Model is a total crap shoot.

Now Its On!

Just a week after the discovery of the Mammoth Crocs, I see a couple of Crocs post on StyleDash that make me want to scream. The first is about Crocs launching a clothing line (I know stay with me here), and the second shows a sweet little video that makes me sick to my stomach.

It seems that my arch nemesis at Crocs HQ have come up with a way to spin the spongy foam resin the shoes are made of into yarn. With this spongy resin yarn, they plan on making t-shirts, and I assume if they actually make a profit the line will expand. As inventive as shoe-shirts may be, I can’t help thinking all of their clothes will feel like they are made of the tarp or at the very least windbreaker material, but at least the clothes will be waterproof.

Right?

Not even seconds after having to process the idea of people walking around in neon tarps they call shirts, I had the honor of viewing a video made by the evil Croc Lords at LookatMyCrazyShoes.com. Its a nice little spoof of the Mac commercials. See the hilarity for yourself:

I personally believe the Mac commercials worked because Justin Long (the mac guy) was relatable. He had this awkward cuteness that makes girls in their teens and twenties swoon just a bit, but he wasn’t overly handsome so the guys weren’t intimidated. In the Crocs spoof however, the “Croc guy” is not really any of the things Justin Long is. I’m afraid to even try to understand who this ad is supposed to be directed towards. Not only that, but while are crocs being labeled “fun and funky” while normal shoes are said to be “socially awkward”?

I know I’m not the only advocate of a Croc-less society. What do you think about a Crocs clothing line and their new advertisements?

Gerard’s Umbrella and Patrick’s Ignition

Chelsea Rae | Entertainment | Tuesday, 28 August 2007

I love when musicians cover each others songs. One song that I think has been covered about a billion times since it came out is “Umbrella” by Rihanna. If you haven’t heard it then you’ve been living under a rock. I’ve gotten fairly tired of hearing everybody cover “Umbrella”, but when I heard Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance does a cover of it on the Projekt Revolution Tour I had to hear it. I didn’t expect much, but it was actually really good. Gerard has an interesting voice that one might not think would work with the song but it does in this strange way (no pun intended).

While I’m in the spirit of sharing strange but totally rad covers, I found a video of Patrick Stump (the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, for those not in the know) singing a sweet version of Akon’s “Don’t Matter’ and R. Kelly’s “Ignition”.

Patrick’s voice always makes me swoon!

Who Needs the Gym?

Chelsea Rae | Lifestyling | Tuesday, 28 August 2007

We as people are always trying to find ways to work out without actually feeling like we’re working out. Currently the MVP of workout-less fitness is the FitFlop. The only downside to these seemingly ingenious shoes is they aren’t really fun (or cute for that matter), but if you’re looking for fun footwear, look no further than FunSlides Carpet Skates.

They’re pretty much two pieces of plastic you strap to your feet. The bottom is super-sanded as to create an almost frictionless surface and the top has spongy material glue to it creating a no-slip-grip for your feet. You also get the honor of lacing yourself in with some awesome Velcro straps, so the “skates” remain firmly on your feet after sudden stops or when accidentally crashing into your couch.

The Carpet Skate which are about half the price of FitFlops actually seems pretty amusing, but I foresee tons of bumps and bruises from people going much faster than they actually should and not being able to stop. Ouch!

I have the perfect fitness routine involving no true exercise materials. First, put on your FitFlops and go walk around the mall and shop for a good hour or so, then head home and before you start doing that pesky housework, put on the Carpet Skates. Do this especially when vacuuming carpets; the mundane task will seem so much more entertaining while you try your best not to crash into the china cabinet. Finally, repeat as often as your wallet will allow!
